One last point I wanted to make. Did anyone else hear what Melissa Stark had to say about her conversation with Cousins and his Offseason Timeline? His plan is to have Video ready to go by the end of February so he and his agent can shop his current state of recovery to every interested team in the NFL that needs a QB. Now, how many teams and what his Market will be is still unknown at this point but if anyone on this board thinks that he is going to give the Vikings a "Team Friendly" deal after they told him NO to the Contract Extension offer last Summer is delusional. That Vikings' Ship has sailed and Kirk will cash in like he always does on which team and situation make the most sense for him and his family both competitively and especially financially. After hearing that, I'm more in doubt now than I ever have been that Kirk will resign here. Not because he doesn't want to, but because Kwesi has a much lower number in mind than Kirk and his Agent will agree to. This also puts a lot of pressure on KOC to actually identify and draft a QBOTF which is what he was brought in to do and could be the start of Kwesi trying to hold KOC accountable for that. Kwesi needs to do what's best for this team and best for the longevity of his career as a GM, and not just do what KOC wants.
I have said all along that Kirk is not going to sign a discounted contract to stay a Viking.  He is looking out for himself and to cash in on the most money he can find.  Even if its the worst team in the league, the most important thing to Kirk is how does this impact my bank account.
And you may very well be right at the end of the day.

But ---

He's already made generational $x2

If the Vikings were competitive in their offer, would he really pass-up the chance to play with JJ/Addison/Darrisaw/TJH/O'Neil and for KOC over playing in ATL or say Washington?

At this point in his career, his family loves it here, I dont think its a slam dunk he wouldn't leave some $ on the table.
The Vikings should not in any way be in the realm of competitive offers to Kirk,   remember any new money is on top of the 28 we owe him from his last "team friendly" deal.  Enough of this shit already,  he's a damn good QB, but not good enough to play with whats left over after he's fed himself.
So then...

You're good with Dobbs, Mullens or Hall? Or a Russel Wilson?
How do you figure we will have any of the QB’s you named starting for us?
One of the 3 maybe will be a backup. And I doubt we would sign Russel Wilson.

Also agree they aren’t getting into a bidding war for Cousins.
KAM & KOC will have to figure out whats best for the team.

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins admitted that he wondered if his Achilles injury would be career ending.
Cousins was a guest on The Adam Schefter Podcast Tuesday and said, "One thought went through my head, 'Will I ever play football again?' You know, I'm an older guy, free agent, is there a market? I didn't know. I believe I will, and I believe it will be there but you wonder."
The 35-year-old quarterback suffered an Achilles tear late in the Vikings' Week 8 win over the Green Bay Packers. Cousins was in the midst of, what some consider, the best season of his career despite the team's poor start. Before his injury, Cousins had thrown for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions while completing 69.5% of his passes.
On what popping his Achilles felt like, Cousins described the moment as "not overly painful" and said "once it tears, it tears and the pain's over."

Torn Achilles Recovery Time in NFL
NFL players torn Achilles recovery time is 10 to 12 months in general. The period varies depending on the severity of the tear or rupture and its impact.
It is hard to predict at what time an NFL player with an injured Achilles will return to the field. As per the reports, almost 30-40% of NFL players with such injuries never make their comeback at the professional level.
Although the injured players could return in the short time frame as well, the NFL has seen a massive drop in their performance level after their comeback and almost none have regained their previous stats.
There are two ways of treatment for the injury. One is a surgery where the surgeon will cut into the bottom of the leg and the torn tendons will be stitched together.
Another option can be a massive amount of rest and avoiding load on the injured leg. The patients can still walk with the help of walking boots or clutches while in the recovery period.

( Source : instagram )
Average Recovery Time For Torn AchillesThe average recovery period for the torn is 4 to 6 months. This is to return to normal activity. It might take up to a year or more to return to a professional level.
Some may return to the field with reduced performance while others may never be able to play at the professional level. But there are some miraculous examples who have returned to the field in just six months.
Cam Akers the Running Back for the Los Angeles Rams returned to the field after 6 months of his injury fit and healthy in 2021. But the performance was not explosive as he just had 72 carries for 175 yards.
Similarly, Tarik Cohen who previously played for the Chicago Bears is another example of a similar type of injury looking for a comeback in the NFL. He was a former RB to the Bears and is a current free agent.
James Robinson and Justice Hill in 2021, Marlon Mack in 2020, all took the field not exceeding 47 weeks of their absence on average.

Doesn't take in consideration position played or the age of the player but we may never see a 100% Kirk again or for very long.  Let him test the market and if a team backs up the brink we move on.  I would only want him at a reasonable discount coming off an injury.

I'm good with moving on and building a team for whoever we draft,  and whatever we can afford for a bridge QB.  I have zero problems with a down year when it means we are reloading for a new and possibly better future.   Sometimes it's necessary to take a step back in order to take a big leap forward,  continuing to let Cousins mortgage this teams future, for another year of the same,  is the very definition of insanity.  Time to get on a different train.

Nonsense. When Kirk signed with the Vikings in 2018, he took the 3rd best deal behind the Jets and Cardinals because we were obviously the better program. This last offseason, Kirk again offered to take less than market to get a 3-year term. It should be clear now that his issue isn't really about the money as much as it is the term and the guarantees.

But now everything's changed. He's another year older and he's recovering from a serious injury. He will be entering his 3rd season in an offense he ran masterfully in his 2nd. And in Minnesota, he has the kind of weapons he won't find anywhere else in the NFL.

For those reasons, Cousins cannot and will not demand a top of market deal. You can call it a hometown discount, a continuity discount, an injury discount, call it whatever you want, but it won't be top of market.

Now, is it possible that some crap team with deep pockets says "fuck the injury" and gives him TOM? Anything's possible. And if it gets to that point, we could be in trouble. But I think if the Vikings' offer is even in the same ballpark, he's probably going to sign it and stay.

You can call it nonsense if you want but the fact that the Vikings offered a fully guarantied deal I'm sure was the deciding factor in his signing.

I still find it hard to believe he is going to settle for a hometown discount.  I just don't think he is the hometown guy many think he is.  He is building a 5 million dollar place on the shores of Lake Michigan so think being in Minneapolis is just another stop in his NFL journey.  Could be wrong but think the all mighty dollar could lure him to a new market.  Maybe the Vikings can compete with offers he gets but they need to think twice about a top of the market contract considering his age and the fact that this could just be the beginning of injuries before the edge of the cliff happens.

I think Cousins will resign with the Vikings for less than
what some other team is offering.

I don’t think it’s a “hometown discount” in the sense that
he cares about our franchise and will give us a deal based on how much he likes
us, but I do think he’ll weigh all his options and when you factor in all the
intangibles in our favor, he’ll take a deal here that is worth less financially
than he could get somewhere else.
Cousins is borderline old and is coming off an injury.  He’s going to have to put a dollar value on
keeping a stable homelife as opposed to switching teams every year or two and I
think .  He’s going to have to put a
dollar value on  whether or not he knows
the system and if the team has high quality pieces around him to help him
succeed.  Most teams are going to have
lesser quality offensive pieces than we do and he’ll have to relearn the
offense for most other teams.  I think us
with Cousins without any other added talent is very likely a playoff caliber
team, but not a SB caliber team.  Cousins
returning plus an infusion of talent on the defensive side of the ball and Flores
returning could boost us into contending for a SB.  Which other QB needy teams can offer that?  I also think there’s some amount of economic
value, where if he ends up in some place where he is likely to succeed, he can
likely bank another contract that is worth more money than he could get by
going to a bottom dweller team.

Who knows, maybe some other team will make him an offer that
the Vikings choose not to compete with, and it ends up being 2 years 80 Million
vs 3 years 120 Million, but I don’t think he’s going to go to some shitty team
for a handful of extra dollars.  I’m
skeptical that he’ll be getting a lot of offers for 3 year deals, fully
guaranteed, given his injury.  I think
theres also a chance that he resigns here for 1 year but more money in an
attempt to boost his value going into 2025 if the offers aren’t great.  Like I could see him doing 1 year $45M in
2024 here, when other teams are offering him 2 years $75M.

The Jets offer was fully guaranteed as well, and it was $6M more. The only thing revealed about the Cardinals offer was that it was more than the Vikings offer. So one can logically assume it was fully guaranteed as well.

Hometown discount is a misnomer. He won't get top of market for several reasons, two of which you highlight yourself in the 2nd bolded area. What's odd is that you think those factors apply to the Vikings but not to other teams.

He will look for a top of the market contract because he knows this will be his last deal most likely.  As far as the age and injury, well there are a lot of owners with money that do crazy stuff when it comes to free agency.  Some owners will gloss right over his age and the impending cliff and offer a stupid number.

To echo some others on here, best case scenario for the Vikings this offseason is to get Kirk signed to an incentive laden, one or two year deal, protecting themselves financially while also making it a good deal for Kirk without kicking ela bunch more money down the road. We use our top 12 pick to draft a QBOTF, which could also become a quarterback of the present should Kirk not be ready to start the regular season or gets hurt again. This will be the highest we've drafted in a while and we need to cash in.

The age won't prevent a stupid number, but the uncertainty surrounding his injury should.
