Imagine Rousseau along w/ Hunter, Wonnum in a year or so.
Since Rousseau is so good inside, he might kill two birds--Edge opposite Hunter and 3T on passing downs with Wonnum outside.
Still not seeing the Rousseau love. But do agree he can rush inside, which the Vikings really do prefer. Phillips if health and background check-out is still the best EDGE in the class and can get push inside too. After watching more I think Oweh is a lot more of what fans/draftniks want Rousseau to be.
Just curious as to what you aren't seeing. I realize his get off is just run of the mill, but...damn. Saw a highlight of him running down field step for step with a RB on a wheel route... That was enough for me when paired with otherworldly production and measurables...
Miami schemed up a lot of his production and teams didn't game plan for him. People look at 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for a loss and say "wow this guys phenomenal". Sure, he had a great start to the season when nobody knew who he was. 9 of his 15.5 sacks game in the first 5 games of the season and he never posted more than a single sack in a game over the final 8. 12 of his 19.5 TFL game in his first 5 games as well. So you have 5 games of pure domination and then 8 games where he was handled.

He improved over those last 8 games but his lack of functional power and leverage were taken advantage of. That will have to change before he can do anything in the NFL. They also pass set against him differently since his get-off isn't great. He's raw and his pass rush technique & plan will improve, but he is not the player the media chalks him up as. He has a long way to go before he even produces in the NFL.

Huh? 4 of his last 8 games he had more 1 sack. A 5 sack and 4 sack game plus multiple TFL.

He did this all while being new to the position, which was exacerbated by Miami playing him all over the place.

11" hands and nearly 35" arms...constructed in a lab.
I wonder if he'll get pushed back in the draft after having opted out. Seems like that might be a very real possibility for those that did skip last year, at least from what I've read.
I think it really depends. If a guy opted out, and he comes to the pro day and shits the bed, that's one thing. If he's in shape, hits his targets, etc, I don't think it's a big deal.
Rousseau may not have shat the bed, but his numbers were not very impressive.  Phillips was much better.  Phillips has concerns having already retired from football once due to injuries - especially concussions.

Which numbers?

21 reps with 35" arms is impressive
4.70 ish forty
30" vertical is ok
3 cone was just outside tolerance, but he had to run it 3 times. Clipped a cone on one, stumbled on the second.

He's got a ton of tools you just cannot teach.

I've been on the Jaelen Phillips bandwagon a while and he showed out today.  The tape sticks out and the athletic ability matches.  All about that medical.

To me, I'd have zero issue if the Vikings took Phillips or Rousseau, who I also love as just a freak athlete. I think we have done enough in free agency filling holes to where we could gamble a little bit on either player. Yes we likely need a couple offensive lineman as the glaring need currently but this is a deep group where we could grab a starter in the 3rd round or in a trade up back into the 2nd round.

Is it draft day yet?
Remember how Dallas passed on Moss because Irvin was such a distraction? Wonder if Hunter's neck is the reason we pass on Phillips.
As good as he is, those concussions are a big concern. Will he be distracted by music. I think his interviews will be a factor.

I gotta think the little birds circling his head are a bigger distraction.

I'm torn. I am legit freaked about his concussions, music aspirations and party guy reputation. I also think he's the best pass rusher in this class who, without the missed season, injuries, etc, would probably be a top 5 pick. A Bosa like pick. And then I envision our DL with this beast opposite Hunter. Scary.

I remember Spielman personally visiting Dalvin Cook and Percy Harvin to alleviate concerns. Hope the Vikings do all their homework on Phillips before putting him on (or off) their board.

I love his size and arm length; he looks like a beast.  But after opting out this past season Rousseau had a lot riding on his pro day.  I watched a bit of it.  He ran 4.71/4.69 in the 40; not impressive.  Just by looking at him I thought he would do better than that.  He did not break 10 feet in the broad jump, so that puts more pressure on his vertical to show explosiveness.  But he only did 30 inches on his vertical. That's underwhelming.  It places him in the bottom 20% of all defensive ends in the past 20 years. Marginal athletes like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Mac Jones both posted better verticals at their pro days.

Honestly, up to yesterday, I didn't bother looking at him due to the medicals. I can definitely understand the excitement. Bosa territory might be a bit rich, but he's in that zip code.

If Hunter was guaranteed to be 100% I'd be a little more likely to pull the trigger on a medical red flag. But I'm really risk averse when it comes to injuries like this. Same thing with Trey Smith. I don't have the stomach for it.

He almost falls into the territory of: "we hope someone above #14 takes him to avoid the scenario all together". If a team is ok with the medicals/off-field he could be gone by #14. But to your point I would imagine the Vikings will do everything in their power to explore his background. But he is the kind of guy the COVID scouting process may hurt since the general consensus is that scouts can't get a good feel prospects outside of their tape and a few Zoom calls. So guys like Phillips could see their stock drop for that reason.
