Vikings biggest need IMO is 3T. Right now, it looks like there is only one 3T worthy of a first round pick (NIxon). And can we trust he'll be available at 14? Too risky. The Vikings cannot afford to go into 2021 without adding a starting 3T, so I see us filling that need in free agency.
With that in mind, I see us either taking an OL (plenty to choose from in the middle 1st), an Edge (Paye, Rousseau), a QB (Lance or Jones) or trading down, recouping our 2nd, and taking a safety.
I agree but there's not a lot out there on the market as far as quality 3 techniques that will be available. Leonard Williams is the best, but he'll get a contract the Vikings wont be able to come close to. Otherwise you are looking at a retread like Suh
I think Williams will be too expensive. I like Sheldon Rankins. Former 1st rounder, uber-talented, injury-plagued career keeps him at 2nd tier money. Saints can't afford towels in the locker room, let alone signing Rankins.
I think Rankins will end up being high on their list. Not only does he fill a need at 3T but the Vikings FO that is still intact were big fans of him in that draft class. If you look at their free agent signings they're tied to the majority in their original draft years.
Another name to watch is Geno Atkins. He won't break the bank at 33 but probably has a year or two left. I'm typically not in the market for adding older players but he is a good stop-gap option if they can draft and develop someone like Twyman who could be had in the 3rd round.
Whats Geno’s gas tank say? i know Zim would love it.

As of today I don't think there is a 3T or S that will sniff the top 15 picks which is kind of unfortunate. Depending what happens during free agency I think you can probably get an OT like Darrisaw at #14 who is a plug-and-play starter in place of Reiff. That doesn't solve your 3T or S problem but it does allow you move off Reiff and save $11.7M. That easily gives you enough cap space to chase someone like Rankins @MaroonBells suggested or Geno Atkins.
I don't mind this as it helps our D-line, but the elephant in the room is Dozier.
For 3 years now I've heard, "if only our o-line was better, Cousins would be the man!"
The Darrisaw/Rankins offseason would be a lateral move along the O-line for the 2021 season at best. Are the Vikings replacing Dozier with the third round pick? Two OL in the first 2 picks feels like a tough sell to fans, and Zim.

No, the Vikings won't draft two OLs in their first two picks.
I have us extending Reiff, which would actually save money on the '21 cap, then cutting Rudolph, Bailey and Stephen, then restructuring Harry, Barr and Thielen, giving us about $20M in cap space. There is going to be a LOT of restructuring this offseason as teams push money into higher-cap years. Then I have us signing Rankins and RG Lane Taylor for 2nd tier money. This moves Cleveland to left guard and closer to his forever home. Then you open the 1st rounder to be edge, safety or even QB.
OR...you could release Reiff, saving even more money, move Cleveland to LT now (that's where he was drafted to play), and use Reiff's money to help pay for the left guard. There are a glut of guards in this year's free agency.
@ MB....Pass me that pipe my friend
Restructuring all 3? Harry Barr and Thielen???

You think that's kicking too much bonus down the road? Yeah, it is, but NFL teams are going to be restructuring the **** out of their teams this offseason knowing that the cap will likely go back to normal in '22.
Or do you think the players won't go for it? Because it's not about that. I'm not talking pay cuts. Players don't even have to be told about it if all you're doing is converting salary to bonus. Harry, for example, has zero dead money and zero bonus money on his current contract, so there's a lot of flexibility with him. You could cut him and save a ton of money, but he's the only starting safety on the roster, so it makes some sense to convert him, as long as you think he's going to play a couple more years. And he doesn't seem to be slowing down. Much.
But....then...you should know that I know as much about the cap as Robby B has forgotten in the time it took me to smoke my bowl and write this. :-)

My head hurts reading your post. Its fun.
Dalvin Cook stays at RB right?

Not full time. In my plan, he will also play some half back. But he'll also spend time at tail back. Either way, I suspect these position changes will have as much impact on Dalvin as moving Ezra to a side he's been playing for the last 4 years.

Changed my mind on Barmore after the last 2 games. He is a true 3T and worthy of being a 14 pick.
I still want to see more consistency out of him. You need to ask, why did he just put it together right now? My personal opinion is that I've always liked the upside of Barmore but just don't see the value inside the top 20 picks. He fills a need for sure but I don't even know if you can expect him to play >50% of the snaps as a rookie until he develops better pass rushing moves. If you promised me the finished product he is worth a top 20 pick. But it just is going to take time to get him there which makes some of the more instant impact prospects more attractive.
Agreed that Barmore has been good but not great throughout most of the season. But his performance the last two games has been outstanding - and against the top competition and in the biggest games. If it is a motivation issue, that's still a problem, but the talent is undeniably there.
@ dadevike it might be a matter of health as well. Regardless, it's a Charmin soft class and if you want to fix the issue at 3T, we are going to get a guy with some warts...

I'm far from cap expert myself...Not sure I'm buying into the religion of this massive restructuring across the NFL landscape this off-season.
Rationale? I think the extended schedule and increased $$$ from that will keep teams from having to do crazy s hit over one year.
