I'll put a bow on this for everyone. Kirk has turned into Wade Wilson. That hard fake in the 2nd Quarter, where he rolls right and has not one fucking defender within 7 yards, and checks it down to CJ for what, 3 yards?
He's toast mentally. And so is this team.
In a few scant seasons Chicago has created an inarguably better Defense than Rick & Zimmer, who've had several more years of high draft picks and big contract extensions at their disposal.
I don't want to hear shit about 'they only gave up 16 points'. How many negative yardage plays did this vaunted Defense that was completely healthy generate? How many turnovers? How many field-position changing drives did they give up?
This Defense doesn't change games, despite all the capital invested in it. They just 'manage' them.
And the Offense? Pathetic. The same backup QB that was consistently moving the ball against the so-called Defensive Guru was executing misdirection for easy, open 3-4 yard plays in its sleep. The $84 Million Dollar QB with the better weapons couldn't even do that.
Not that the playcalling had much of that stuff in there. Run up the gut, get stuffed. Rinse and repeat. Then try and keep a clean pocket on 3rd and long. Over and over and over again.
Stefanski didn't even try to truly change things up until the late-game shotgun looks. Either because he's an idiot or because Zimmer wouldn't allow it.
And how about that shitty Offensive Line? Bears built a better one that kept their backup QB cleaner in what, 3 years? Less?
Rick Spielman is mediocre. Mike Zimmer is mediocre. Know how I know? They beat most crappy teams at home and on the road. They beat some good teams at home. They lose to good teams on the road nearly every fucking time.
Folks, that's mediocre. Every single flaw that was exposed in the NFCCG drubbing was supposedly addressed. And they still can't beat any good teams on the road. That's mediocrity. And I'm sad to say that appears to be good enough for the Wilfs.
The Bears have better Lines, Coaches and Decision-makers. If they ever get the QB right they might actually do more than just own Minnesota.
The sad part is how I keep thinking that somehow this year's gonna be different. Every. Single. Year. I'll keep watching because my ancestors have cursed me with this burden. But I am well and truly done defending anything related to this franchise....

FSU, I agree with most of what you said. I would say that the Bears don't have just a great D, they weaponize them. They play hyper-aggressive. They play that when the ball is snapped, it's just as much theirs as the O's.
You are correct that our D is very good but regrettably not against solid O-lines. They do play to "manage" the game. Most teams would have salivated playing against a backup QB. Yet he played better than their starter. Opportunity lost.

I appreciate your very thorough overview of this team.....I've been stating these very thoughts for the past 10+ years, and aside from the obvious anomaly of 2017 and Keenum's well-documented "horse shoe up his ass", I have been proven correct.
Ironically, today's loss was truly a game that was ol' Zimmer's "cup of tea"....ya know, very little OFFENSE/SCORING.
Too bad he and his team choked on that "cuppa"....AGAIN.
