Kubiak Interview And Hiring
#31
I think this is a great hire and should help improve the offense.  Now just get more talent to go with it.

Vikings hiring former Broncos’ HC Gary Kubiak in an offensive advisory role, per a league source. Kubiak’s son, Klint, is expected to become Vikings’ QB coach and Kevin Stefanski will remain as Vikings’ O

this is a coup

Jesus there are some paranoid Andriods around here lately.

Maybe, just maybe, Stefanski almost getting hired by the Browns got Rick & Mike thinking they need an in-house successor if Kevin does a good or great job next season.

And maybe that successor is actually, I don't know, a friend of Kevins.

Or maybe it was Stefanski who made the recommendation to hook up his friend and his friend's old man?

Lots of things we don't know. One thing I personally know? Vikings fans go straight to the Dark Side almost religously. Must be in the water.
The Vikings just want to win. That simple. If Gary Kubiak becomes available, you get him. I love this move, maybe more than when we got Shurmer

I wonder how Stephanski feels about Kubiac.  Hopefully he's onboard, and all is good.  It will be interesing to see how the roles play out, and see who's calling plays on Sundays.

Well, it did occur to me that this feels a little bit like Shurmur being the "Special Offensive Coach" in 2016 with Turner still OC and it seemed like Norv thought Pat was looking over his shoulder...
Yeah, I think he will be special offensive coach and offensive coordinator undermine specialist, just like Shurmur and Norv! But I sure hope not.
I actually think that worked out well for the Vikings.

This may well be a great move.  But I would bet this doesnt make KS feel any too relaxed.  Zim did not give him a full throated endorsement at the end of the season.  And when he came back after not getting a HC job, gave a press conference that was anything but warm towards Zimmer.  Now he has a former HC as an “offensive advisor?”  Also, Kubiak is bringing in a whole team of people loyal to him to help run the offense (OL, QB and TE coaches).  Doesnt that put Stefanski on a rather lonely island?  Maybe this is a GREAT move and Stefanski will learn and mesh with his “mentor” who knows?  But Stefanski better keep his collar up—that hot breath on his neck could be distracting.

Yeah. Me too. I was just saying that in jest. I thought Shurmur was excellent. And I sure don't mind having more experience on the offensive coaching staff.

It's a very interesting move. Kubiak is a very experienced coach, who can hopefully balance supporting Stefanski without taking things over. His insights on zone blocking and the running game should be particularly helpful. Also, it seemed like Zimmer missed having a former Head Coach on the staff after Sparano died, so Kubiak should be a nice sounding board for him. There's no cap on coaches, so I like this infusion of knowledge and experience and hopefully, it will mix well with what Stefanski is trying to do.

I suspect part of this is that Stefanski was already a finalist for the Browns job, so Kubiak may feel we are good springboard to get his son into the HC ranks.

Not sure I get the Kubiak hate, seemed pretty solid to me as a coach. Stefanski and his son, Klint, are good buddies.
Why hate?  Most are curious at the least or encouraged.  I was remembering of manning getting his ass kicked pretty regular but I don't watch a lot of donkey ball.
You realize the vast majority of Kubiak's coaching career was with the Texans, right? Not the Broncos? 2-2 playoff record, better than Zimmer.

Yes and I also know that in the not for long league that you are only as good as your last memorable position,  I was asking a legit question about his hiring, I wasn't hating, as you called it.  I recall his team being very similar to what our team is dealing with...lots of talent at the skill positions but a shitty oline,  and if I am remembering correctly why bring in his OL coach?

As far as the texans job,  that was to far back to really count...I mean if the game can pass Zimmer by in only a year or 2,  as some suggest, why would anybodys resume have any meaning beyond that time frame?

I don't hate the hiring,  I like adding experience,  I was just questioning how much help this particular guy will bring to fixing our very broKen oline based on his last opportunity to do so that looked like a failure in Denver where they were ranked in the lower third of the league under him...of course that was by PFF...so there's that.

The positive side of me says "good! an experienced hire and another lens to help out young Stefanski"

The negative side of me says "great! another cook in the kitchen with black eyes and firings sure to ensue"
