So if this wasnt a big deal and every driver was aware of this...why the big show of support by all the other drivers yesterday and all the shit?
Great question. Dog and pony show for Nascar to show how diverse they are, lol. What a joke this whole thing has turned out to be. Honestly, wtf?? Did Bubba overreact or was this some kind of weird PR stunt to get Nascar back on the radar? When there was no video on it, it didn't make sense to me. Now I get why. And the media is downplaying this finding by the FBI this morning....the whole thing stinks.
no news is bad news.
Big money corps, like nascar, NFL..., all control their brand and what is fed to the media. Like you said, Nascar needed to get in on the trend of showing how diverse they are.

I don't blame Wallace. I have no doubt that his experiences caused him to believe the "hype". To me, the ones to blame are the people who scream "racism" so much that people believe that they see it- even when it's (clearly) not there. Reminds me of the whacko who says they see Jesus' face in their toast.
Imagine what our world would look like if every woman screamed "rape" every time a man made her feel uncomfortable. You know who would be hurt the most in that scenario? Not the men who are being falsely accused (although that would be a problem- at first- until the culture became numb to the accusation); it would be the women who are actually getting raped. Same thing here: the ones who suffer the most in times like this are the POC who are actually suffering from racism.
We are in a time of word, history and feeling appropriation. Yes there are issue to address, yes as a nation we can do better. But right now the narrative is not about getting you to agree it is about getting you to submit. Sorry but address the issue that are tangible and real. Killing of any kind is wrong address the large numbers and work from there.
Bizarre story and even more if the "noose" is simply a door pull rope that is on every single garage door and has been there for 8+ months. If that's true, how did Wallace not understand that? How did other drivers not? That's like seeing a can of gasoline in your garage, accepting it for months, and one day deciding it's a bomb planted by someone and calling the police - and all your friends agreeing with you. If that's all it was, Wallace and all the drivers who supported him are either crazy stupid or part of some conspiracy. IDK...reading some of the further reports, there are odd comments like, "it was a noose but not a functioning noose". What does that mean?
I am still challenged to believe this was contrived by NASCAR to generate more viewership, but my main reason for disbelief is that the key information many people will take away is, "NASCAR only has 1 minority driver", which will just confirm the impression of the sport being full of hillbillies. But hey, maybe they are not trying to attract open-minded people...maybe NASCAR thinks there are some people who like the idea of a sport that is still full of white faces and is trying to draw any who aren't already fans.
I wonder how many people base their viewership of any sport based on the race of the players? I would think talent and ability are far, far more important than a player's race. I like NBA basketball and NHL hockey. Arguably both sports have some the best players in the world within their respective sport. If you like a sport, you'll enjoy seeing excellent play regardless of percentage breakdown by race. BTW, not a NASCAR fan, never have been.

Never been a nascar fan either. I just can't imagine viewership based on something like race? But with racing, people are fiercely loyal to a driver or team from what I have seen. So it could be more a factor in that sport than say in football where the team has such diversity.
To me, loyalty to a team is above that. Favorite players have more to do with ability, position, personality, number, college, long before race comes into play.

Door pull ropes aren't typically nooses. The rope was fashioned into a noose by someone.

There is absolutley zero people that go in garages often and wouldnt have known it was a door pull string.
This was a PR stunt.
NASCAR has morphed a ton over the years, as it changed from a "suthin' boy" sport to one that gets people from all over the US, and has had Indy/F1 drivers take their shots at it (they agree: it's a helluva lot more than "go fast and turn left"). A ton of the better drivers are either from Cali or "Yankee" states, and the tracks are all over the place, now.
I think the support for Bubba is a good thing, and he honestly always seemed like a good dude...not really wanting the "platform" as much as he wants competitive equipment and to race for wins. His team is pretty mid-pack at the moment.
I'm hoping this will blow over, much the way I think the CHAZ stupidity up here will wind down. The recent noose found at the Cali track is...ungood...and I hope the perpetrator is found, ASAFP.

Photographic evidence (that even Wallace admitted was true) revealed, that, whatever it was...had been there for months.
Wallace has also (belatedly, but gracefully) admitted he was NOT THE TARGET.
What a stretch of credulity, that some want to maintain, that racism is an omnipresent/systemic reality of everyday American life.
In fact, true racism is such an American rarity...that it has to be created out of whole cloth/thin air.
The demand for it (racism) far supersedes the supply. So much so, it has to be bought.
By Smollett or the MSM.
