Reading through this it sounds like there's big $$ to be saved, it also sounds like a hassle to me with all the different pieces that you have to jump to and from (either hardware and/or software). At a glance, it's not seamless enough for me, not yet.
And as Tbro said - you have to be deliberate on how you watch.
I'll look into it a lot more when I need a new TV or until someone makes it as easy as turning it on and saving $ along with personalization of what I want to see.

It's funny you posted this because just this morning I made my decision. My God, ever feel like you have TOO MANY choices?
1. I'm canceling DTV, canceling Sunday Ticket. This eliminates over $1,000 between now and January.
2. I'm buying a PS4, which I had intended to do anyway for my son for Xmas. But hey, Xmas in September! This will run about $300 but it's a cost I had budgeted for anyway, so I'm not including that in the price breakdown.
3. I'm subscribing to Playstation Vue "Core" package for $49.99 a month. As far as I can tell, this is the ONLY option that gives you ESPN, NFLN and the four major networks ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox...AND a DVR.
4. For the games that aren't broadcast on these stations, I figure about half, I will either go to the local Vikings bar, which can be a blast, or I will hunt down a streaming feed. No recording options for these games, but I've noticed I don't really re-watch them anymore.
5. After football season, I will likely just cancel the "Vue" and watch the stuff I already subscribe to: Netflix, Amazon, etc.
Bottom line
1 year of DTV plus Sunday ticket = $1740
1 year of PSV = $300 (canceled after 6 months), plus whatever the bar tabs come to. PS4 already accounted for.
Kicking DTV to the curb = Priceless
I officially cut the cord on Friday. I was reading through some of the replies here and the amounts out of market people pay are ridiculous. I truly hate all the price gouging. But I think as more people cut the cord, the more cable has to be flexible. Streaming is the way things are going. It has been interesting to watch the transition and the technology is only going to grow.
I dont get ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox with Vue. ...I use an antenna for those.
MB can you receive OTA local channels with an antenna?

I can, or at least I assume I can. I live in a high area in central Denver (no weed jokes). it's a very inexpensive option if I have to go that route, but everything I've read says that Vue has them. It also says that lineups vary by region, but it appears all are available in Denver. There's a really good article linked below that breaks it down. But now I'm thinking the "on-demand" vs. "live content" might be a problem. I will definitely want to confirm this before moving forward.

PlayStation Vue, Sony's live TV streaming service, offers all the networks -- ESPN, Fox, NBC, CBS and the NFL Network -- that show NFL games, and you can add the NFL RedZone channel for $10 a month extra. (NFL RedZone is a channel that springs to life each fall and shows live coverage from around the league with the promise to show you every touchdown from every Sunday afternoon game. If you play fantasy football, NFL RedZone may become habit-forming.) The $45 Core plan is the cheapest option that includes the networks NFL fans need, and the $10-a-month Sports Pack will get you NFL RedZone.
Channel lineups vary by region, so check out which live, local networks you get on the PlayStation Vue Plans page. In many markets, you can watch on-demand but not live content from CBS, Fox and NBC.
Ive seen that but I dont get any local "OTA" channels in my TV guide. I have a slew of CBSports, FoxSports (FS1, FS2, FSN) and NBCsports channels thou... I think theyre refering to those networks' cable channels.
(Perhaps those OTA channels are included in larger markets?)
Its definately strange wording; i've never had a live show tell me I couldnt watch it or that it wasnt available. Ive never had basic CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox on there either.

If I go to the PSV site, it gives me a breakdown of all channels I get per package. The CBS, ABC, NBC channels include the Denver station branding (CBS4, 9News, etc) so I feel pretty confidant all that is there. HOWEVER, I just discovered that there was a dispute between PS and Fox and so they no longer carry Denver's local Fox station. And since that would be the station I would need the most....it appears the antenna is back in play.

Just so you know, you don’t need a PS3 or 4 to stream Playstation Vue. A $35 Roku device allows you to get PS Vue and a lot of other stuff.

Well, there ya go MB. and think about how much Lincoln Logs for XMAS will save ya now!
An fyi, we are on the Dish network "welcome" package. It isn't in HD and you buy the reciever. It doesn't have a DVR but I do get local channels and history, CC, Boom etc. Its $24/mo taxes included. They don't advertise it and it hadn't had an increase till this year from $22. We can't get any OTA channels and I want the local Nashville news thus this was the cheapest option. It still give us the feel of old style TV surfing while we do most of our watching on Netfilx and on content downloaded from sites we don't name here.
