What would get for trading Barr as an example?  Remember the other team will have to renegotiate his contract to the terms we could not afford so I don't know about a 1st rounder.  Maybe a 2 and a 4 the following year or something like that.

Their is an article on ESPN about Earl Thomas being traded and none of the scenario's include getting a first rounder.

Also, being the 12th pick (I think) what would the comp pick be?
As others have stated, it's entirely based on the contract he gets in FA.  But I don't think it can be weighted purely in terms of draft capital.  There's also the matter of him playing here this year.  If you trade him, we lose a full year of value from him and we're probably not going to replace him with a good player at this point in FA.  The other thing to consider is that trading him gets us a pick next year, whereas a compensatory pick would happen in 2 years.
as far as any of these 3 go... if we arent resigning them... trade them away asap.  get max value out of the draft pick... I hate this notion of getting a compensatory pick is supposed to make it ok to letting top talent walk away.  like you said,  a comp pick is a year later so it should be viewed as a full round lower value since you lose that full season... good point!
Yeah, I don't think the compensatory picks weigh in heavily.  I think it's primarily how much value they can provide us in going after a SB this year, vs how much we get via a draft pick.

if we were truly going all in, we wouldnt be holding back cap space to resign guys,  we would have made sure we got a few more pieces to the puzzle added this offseason like better LB depth and a couple other areas... IMO they are always looking at the future and if moving a key piece this year in order to maximize return vs losing him for next to nothing.. well it has to be considered IMO.  to many things could go wrong along the way to play it all in on one year IMO.

I don't think we've really held back any cap space resigning guys.  All the guys we need to resign need to be resigned before next year.  None of that has anything to do with this year.  We broke the bank for Cousins.  We went out and got Richardson.  I think if someone offered a first for Barr we'd jump on it.  If someone offered a lower second, I doubt we'd move him.

Honestly, I think Hunter leaving would have the least negative impact as the D-line depth and talent is super deep. We've got nobody to replace Barr or Diggs depth-wise that would make any kind of impact....nothing in the depth pipeline at all.
You're probably right in the short-term, but long-term I think it may prove to have the biggest impact. Assuming Hunter leaves you're likely losing Robison, Richardson, and Hunter after this season. That leaves you a gap both at 3-tech and DE since nobody else on the roster has taken a full workload.

After that you're left with Everson at age 31 and Linval Joseph at age 30. So you're not really getting any younger either.

Resigning Hunter has to be a priority in my opinion. Even over Diggs. People are going to give Hunter grief since he didn't fill up the stat sheet in 2017 but his game tape was absolutely phenomenal and a team on the FA market is going to throw $15-18M+ at him without much hesitation.
You think it's likely we lose Richardson after this year huh?

How come???

Its not a sure thing by any means. But I think it was a mutual decision for the Vikings and Richardson to agree on a one year deal. He comes into a situation he should be able to produce in, the Vikings get that production for at least one season. Then he moves on and get the monster money he couldn't find on the market this off-season, next year. The Vikings end up getting a 3rd or possibly 4th round comp pick. Its still a win-win for both sides if that is how it ultimately plays out.
No, no, no....

A win is for the Vikings to get a monster year this year and keep him Smile

I dont want to lose anybody, ever.

i am guessing it has to do with money.... we all knew that when we waded into the 25+ million for a QB pool that other parts of the roster were going to suffer.
Or he could be looking for Aaron Donald money which Minnesota would not have been able to afford even without dipping into the 25+ million pool.
