As others have stated, it's entirely based on the contract he gets in FA. But I don't think it can be weighted purely in terms of draft capital. There's also the matter of him playing here this year. If you trade him, we lose a full year of value from him and we're probably not going to replace him with a good player at this point in FA. The other thing to consider is that trading him gets us a pick next year, whereas a compensatory pick would happen in 2 years.
as far as any of these 3 go... if we arent resigning them... trade them away asap. get max value out of the draft pick... I hate this notion of getting a compensatory pick is supposed to make it ok to letting top talent walk away. like you said, a comp pick is a year later so it should be viewed as a full round lower value since you lose that full season... good point!

if we were truly going all in, we wouldnt be holding back cap space to resign guys, we would have made sure we got a few more pieces to the puzzle added this offseason like better LB depth and a couple other areas... IMO they are always looking at the future and if moving a key piece this year in order to maximize return vs losing him for next to nothing.. well it has to be considered IMO. to many things could go wrong along the way to play it all in on one year IMO.

I don't think we've really held back any cap space resigning guys. All the guys we need to resign need to be resigned before next year. None of that has anything to do with this year. We broke the bank for Cousins. We went out and got Richardson. I think if someone offered a first for Barr we'd jump on it. If someone offered a lower second, I doubt we'd move him.

Its not a sure thing by any means. But I think it was a mutual decision for the Vikings and Richardson to agree on a one year deal. He comes into a situation he should be able to produce in, the Vikings get that production for at least one season. Then he moves on and get the monster money he couldn't find on the market this off-season, next year. The Vikings end up getting a 3rd or possibly 4th round comp pick. Its still a win-win for both sides if that is how it ultimately plays out.

i am guessing it has to do with money.... we all knew that when we waded into the 25+ million for a QB pool that other parts of the roster were going to suffer.
Or he could be looking for Aaron Donald money which Minnesota would not have been able to afford even without dipping into the 25+ million pool.
