The uncertainty of the achilles almost forces the Vikings to go QB high in the next draft.
I think the Vikings would draft a QB even without the injury. I think they'll even move up for one. It's just time to get the QBOTF in the pipeline. I think the only thing that would prevent that is Hall coming in these last two games and just lighting it up.
I am rooting for Hall to light it up,  but even with that said,  I will be pissed if they still dont take a QB in the draft,  how many times have we seen rookies look like future HOF for a few games, but give pro level DCs a little time to review their game tape and they fall back to earth.  That pipeline you mention should always have at least 1 QB in training,  be better if it were 2,  so IMO regardless of what we learn or dont learn these next 2 weeks,  we need to be picking QB in the first come April.
I agree. Wouldn't matter to me how well Hall does. I'd still take a QB.

But with Cousins signed and Hall looking terrific, the team might start to get real tempted by one of those edges, particularly if the QBs don't fall right for us.
I think its going to be very difficult for Hall to 'look good' with all the injuries the team currently has.
Which is exactly why I wanted to see him when they pulled Dobbs 3 weeks ago. We are getting into quesi pre-season type game settings with the injuries and our playoff chances dwindling by the week. Not sure we get an accurate reading on him now which is hugely disappointing

100% agree with this. But with the injuries to TJH & Addison, Muse & Tristan Jackson are likely to be active & Hall hopefully has developed a rapport with both of them.

Kirks gonna want a 2 year deal. With at least 30? (Low end guess) Million per year

He's already got 29 million dollar cap hit whenever he does leave....

Add Hunter, JJ and darrisaw and the Vikings will be tight against the cap thru 2026

You're certain kwesi is gonna sign up for that?
$30mm wont happen...

I suspect it will be closer to $40mm  - maybe with more incentives built in then b4:

I agree. I think it will need to be a 3 year deal with significant salary guarantees that will be around $38 Million per year plus incentives to get over $40M. The QB market ratchets up a lot in 2024. I also think Cousin's dead cap hit is also factoring into him resigning here so they don't have to eat $28.5M and let him walk for nothing.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/202...arterback/

Unfortunately, signing Cousins will likely come at the expense of not being able to sign Hunter unless Brez can get really creative. Fingers crossed.

We still need to be all in for drafting a QBOTF in the 1st or 2nd rounds. At least we gained a lot of draft position in our loss to the Lions. If we can lose the next two weeks, I feel pretty good about getting a decent QB in the draft. We currently sit at 15 with GB at 12. A loss to the packers would inch us closer to the top ten.
What's the point of drafting a QB immediately after you guarantee that the rookie deal he would be on is worthless?  We would be paying Cousins for all 4 years of the rookies contract, at a premium QB price.  I think if you are drafting a QB, you need to be resigning Cousins to a 1 or 2 year deal.
Sorry for the delayed response. I totally agree with you. It doesn't make sense to sign Cousins to a 3 year deal and spend a high draft pick on on a QB. I didn't mean to contradict myself. I believe we should draft a QB in the 1st round and not resign Cousins. I believe KOC wants to resign Cousins because he knows what he has and that Cousins can run his offense. I truly believed that KOC wanted a Mobile QB. I'm not so sure about that anymore because we haven't seen any adaptation by KOC to adjust the offense to what Dobbs, Mullens, or Hall do well. He's still calling the same plays, still designing the same routes as if Kirk is throwing the ball. The real question is what does Kwesi want and who has the ultimate say in what direction they take? I go back to the offseason when they had a chance to get a Cousins extension done and they said No to what he and his agent offered.

Hall didn't look like a QB that was ready to start this year and more than likely next year. His offensive line also failed to show up. That had to be Darrisaw's worst game as a Viking. The entire line was a train wreck last night.

One last point I wanted to make. Did anyone else hear what Melissa Stark had to say about her conversation with Cousins and his Offseason Timeline? His plan is to have Video ready to go by the end of February so he and his agent can shop his current state of recovery to every interested team in the NFL that needs a QB. Now, how many teams and what his Market will be is still unknown at this point but if anyone on this board thinks that he is going to give the Vikings a "Team Friendly" deal after they told him NO to the Contract Extension offer last Summer is delusional. That Vikings' Ship has sailed and Kirk will cash in like he always does on which team and situation make the most sense for him and his family both competitively and especially financially. After hearing that, I'm more in doubt now than I ever have been that Kirk will resign here. Not because he doesn't want to, but because Kwesi has a much lower number in mind than Kirk and his Agent will agree to. This also puts a lot of pressure on KOC to actually identify and draft a QBOTF which is what he was brought in to do and could be the start of Kwesi trying to hold KOC accountable for that. Kwesi needs to do what's best for this team and best for the longevity of his career as a GM, and not just do what KOC wants.

  • Let Kirk walk
  • Spend $30M combined per year on a DE and DT (Plenty of potential options to add: DJ Reader, Leonard Williams, Calais Campbell, Chase Young, Javon Kinlaw, Christian Wilkins, A'Shawn Robinson, Soloman Thomas)
  • Extend Jefferson and Hunter
  • Move on from Harry and sign a VET center
  • Draft QBOTF in Round 1 (Williams, Maye, Daniels, McCarthy)
  • Draft trenches and RB the rest of the draft
Give the rookie the keys to the team.  Sign a Drew Lock as a back up/compete for the starter gig

I have said all along that Kirk is not going to sign a discounted contract to stay a Viking.  He is looking out for himself and to cash in on the most money he can find.  Even if its the worst team in the league, the most important thing to Kirk is how does this impact my bank account.

And you may very well be right at the end of the day.

But ---

He's already made generational $x2

If the Vikings were competitive in their offer, would he really pass-up the chance to play with JJ/Addison/Darrisaw/TJH/O'Neil and for KOC over playing in ATL or say Washington?

At this point in his career, his family loves it here, I dont think its a slam dunk he wouldn't leave some $ on the table.

The Vikings should not in any way be in the realm of competitive offers to Kirk,   remember any new money is on top of the 28 we owe him from his last "team friendly" deal.  Enough of this shit already,  he's a damn good QB, but not good enough to play with whats left over after he's fed himself.

So then...

You're good with Dobbs, Mullens or Hall? Or a Russel Wilson?
