I just can't see it happening. Tell me what team will trade for Cousins and why? Cousins will refuse to be traded to the Jets as a part-year rental, waiting for Rodgers to return. It won't happen. NYJ are 2-3, soon to be 2-4 when they play the Eagles. Atlanta doesn't make any sense, they are winning with Desmond Ridder. They need to see what they have in that kid. I know some fans desperately want to see this happen....its not going to happen. Regardless of what I or you think of the Vikings, I'm quite sure KOC and company aren't ready to throw in the towel when basically the Vikings are the best 1-4 team in the league.
Many of us as fans are ready to blow it up. But its not that easy. And the assets the Vikings have I'm not sure they'll get premium value for in a trade. And if I'm Cousins, I just ride this year out and see what's what as a FA next year. The Vikings are in a less than ideal situation now by having waited, but at the same time who knew they'd turn the ball over so damn much and so consistently? And the Vikings were in every damn loss even with the gross turnovers. Its a frustrating place for the team to be and there's no easy remedy.
It's more than that. There's a very good reason why QBs are never traded mid-season.
Atlanta makes more sense than the Jets. I think the Jets are more comfortable now rolling with Wilson (and his limitations) and hoping Rodgers comes back healthy next year. I don't think they want to invest more draft capital and money into what could be a 1-year rental either. Could be wrong...
That said, Atlanta might be the perfect trade partner if the Vikings are looking to move Kirk. They have all their picks (Jets have their 1st and 2nd tied up with the Rodgers real) and Ridder... despite playing better this week doesn't look like a starter to me. Kirk with that running game and play action could easily vault Atlanta to the top of that division.
I think Atlanta is one of the few teams that would make an in-season trade for Kirk. And it wouldn't be about just this year, he could be their guy for at least the next couple years while they continue to groom Ridder and or their next QB.
I keep coming back to why wouldn't the vikings do the same thing then? Why not keep Cousins while grooming whomever they pick this draft. Ideally a year or two. GMs and Coaches have short shelf lives. If KAM and KOC put together a couple losing seasons in a row that could be the end of their NFL careers.
I dont know Atlantas situation, but I think we are further away and spending big money on a decent not great QB, while we try to fix everything else is counter productive when that big QB money could be better used on younger free agents at other positions of need. Kirk is st the end of his career, in 2 or 3 years when this team could be a legit contender, he would still be handicapping the team due to his contract, and we would still likely be dealing with no trade clauses and the like. If we are going to rebuild, then commit to the rebuild, keeping Kirk IMO makes no sense due to his age and his cost.
I just don’t see Cousins waiving his no trade clause. In my mind he’s got to do whatever he can to
maximize his value for getting his next contract. Here, he is going to look very productive. Getting traded midseason, doesn’t look good
on the resume, unless you get traded to a contender. Even then, you’re learning the playbook as
you go, probably underperforming what he would have done here. I just don’t see many situations where he
looks better by being on their team then he does being here and ending the
season as a top 5 stats QB.

Thats why I say he would have to get extended by any team he would waive it for, which isn't out of the realm of possibility. If you have a contender but need a QB bad enough to give up good compensation, why wouldn't you give him another couple years?

According to Glazier though he thinks the Vikings "want to keep Cousins." At least that was his impression from talking with people at training camp.

Wolfson reporting the Jaguars have "all sorts of interest" in Danielle Hunter. Their high interest in him dates all the way back to this offseason.
I think Hunter gets moved. Cousins, not so sure..
Also rumors of Jordan Hicks being moved with the Bills a potential landing spot
any pending free agents should be open for discussion IMO. hell right now the only 2 I would say are dead on NOs are our book end OTs. It would be nice to include JJ, but after the leaks about him being difficult on extension talks... well, if somebody wants to get stupid, we should listen.
