While I've been in favor of trading Kirk in the past as part of a sensible rebuild, I just don't know how the Jets maneuver the cap to take on both Rodgers and Cousins salary in a trade unless the Vikings took on a huge part of Kirk's salary. Even then I don't know how that would work
good point about the cap,  however the Jets currently have about 10 million in cap space available,  which coincidentally is exactly what Kirks contract had for salary for this year,  of which the Vikings are now on the hook for about 1.2 million of that,  so they could make it work.
Interesting. I thought they'd be right up against it after signing Rodgers, Cook, and the rest of the Packer cast-off's this offseason..

Except for Kirk's well-known "no trade" clause, which makes this, like the previous 5 years' worth of this babble...

...you guessed it, kiddies:

a waste of time and bandwidth.

Thanks for playing!
its funny that you think we are playing,  i am not even sure you are in the game.

you do understand that the clause doesnt prevent him from being traded... right?  it just means that he has to approve any trade,  so any trade discussions are perfectly plausible until Kirk himself would come out and say he's not going to team "X" or not willing to leave MN at all.  And if the Jets ( or whoever ) were to offer Kirk an extension to his liking,  why wouldnt he be willing to jump?  its not like the Vikings have an offer on the table for him.

Do you not think Cousibs would wave it to play for a serious contender like the Jets?

they could actually make something work for an extension for Kirk as well ( to get him to waive the no trade clause)  if they played the elastic cap game.

While respecting those that are not fans of Kirk or think he is not capable of leading us to win a SB, I disagree that he is at the end of his career just yet and also disagree with the notion that he is not capable of getting us to a SB win.  He is the best thing we have had at QB for a very long time.  He has some flaws (fumblitis at times, etc.), but his positives WAY outweigh his negatives.  Tell me when, Kirk, a classic pocket passer, has ever had a great offensive line with us?  The answer is never.  He just went on the road last night and threw for 350+ yards, with 4 TD's and no Ints's against the reigning NFC champs in prime time.  Yeah, we lost, thanks in large part to 4 fumbles and one was his, a strip sack, which is almost always 50% QB holding onto the ball, and oh yeah, 50% offensive line not pass blocking well enough.  Did you happen to see how many hits he absorbed last night immediately after throwing highly accurate passes?  It is a rare breed QB that is 37 years old, stays healthy, stays focused, is extremely accurate, takes the beating he does on a weekly basis and it is water off his back every week as he comes back and does the same thing the next week.  He is a top-tier QB, like it or not.  Not comparing Cousins to Brady at all, but just saying that Brady would bitch and moan at his OL for allowing him to get hit just a few times a game.  Kirk is getting wailed on almost every play.  Our team has a lot of issues now, some correctable in-house and some that require change, but our QB is not one of them.  You want to look at the two sources of many of our issues - look to the trenches, where they get man-handled weekly.  Fix the OL and DL to at least a "good" status from our current "journey-man patchwork" on both sides albeit with some nice patches here and there, and watch this team take it to the next level, with Kirk leading the way.

Also, imo there is no way the Jet's trade for Cousins and NO WAY Cousin's accepts to be traded to them, uproot his family and move to NY to be Rodgers place-holder for a year.  I hope we re-sign Kirk (of course keep drafting to find the future at QB) and focus on getting more talent on the lines.

Mike Tannenbaum just on ESPN saying that if he were the Jets, he "would not get off the phone" with the Vikings attempting to acquire Kirk Cousins. I think this could heat up the next couple weeks depending on what the Vikings record is and how Wilson plays, which most expect to not be good..

I don't think Cousins is good enough "with this team"  But it really fun to watch him and JJ but more fun with victories.  Too many holes like IOL and really the whole Defense other then Hunter

5 years of this stupidity, just switching from SF to the Jets.

Given that Kirk is currently tied for first among best offensive players on the team, I think the belief that he's simple trade bait is pretty...vacant.

You make it sound like not getting to experience Kirk taking us to an 8-9 record this year is some sort of tragedy.  Or at least that's what you do when you're not calling us all idiots and bad fans.

You feel the 8-9 wins is reality, I feel that way about the..."fanhood"...of anyone wanting to suck for picks.

"Boo hoo, blow it up so we can man-sturbate over shiny new college kids!".  Pathetic.

Throwing in the towel after two losses, especially two losses to recent superbowl teams, is the opposite of fortitude, and definitely nothing like fandom. Maybe it's "Ride or...well, until my attention wanders" or "Ride until I reset my Madden roster".

Not even having the spine for fandom is just...special.  Wow.
