Vikings cuts starting to trickle in.....

Definitely some misses in the 3rd and 4th round last year. But don't forget our starting safety was among those picks, as was Fast Kenny and Patrick Jones, who looks to be 1st off the bench at Edge. But since most 3-7 rounders never amount to anything, draft classes are mostly evaluated by the success or failure of the 1st rounder, which was Darrisaw, so....
Darrisaw looks the part so far, but part of what made that pick so great was trading down for... Mond and Davis.  But I won't fault Rick for finally spending at day 2 pick on a QB.  That was his biggest downfall, never taking a chance on a QB.

"In Spielman's defense, Darrisaw looks like a potential future star, Bynum is currently a starter, and Nwangwu led the NFL in kick return touchdowns as a rookie. Jones and Smith-Marsette are intriguing young pieces, too. If Darrisaw reaches his potential, that alone is enough to make this a solid class.
Still, to have four third-round picks and whiff spectacularly on three of them is a tough pill to swallow. The Mond and Surratt picks were iffy at the time, and there have been rumors that Spielman went against the consensus of his scouting staff when taking Davis."

I agree with this but it is too early to predict the hits vs the misses.
But if Darrisaw is a starting LT for a decade and Bynum is a starter and you get depth and situational play from Nwang, Jones, Smith-Marsette then yea a good draft.  Right now, with all those cuts it doesn't look great that is for sure.

Agree with all, so just a little perspective....the whole idea behind trading down to accumulate mid-to-late round picks is because you know your odds of hitting past the 2nd round are probably under 50%. The more darts you have, the better your odds. So we missed on Mond, Davis and Surratt, but hit on Bynum, Nwangwu...and maybe Patrick Jones and ISM. Jury's still out on J-Rob and Davidson since it seems they will be back.

I also think that when you do that, you're probably more willing to gamble on a couple of those extra picks. That's exactly what Surratt was.

But you're spot on with Darrisaw. For example, Vikings drafted poorly in 2017 but nobody really cares much since that was the draft that landed Dalvin Cook. If Darrisaw, Bynum and Fast Kenny continue on their trajectories, nobody will care much about those misses over time.

What will continue to sting? Taking Mond over Mills.

Interesting to me that we still have so many offensive linemen.  With the exception of Wyatt Davis, i don't think any have been released today....yet. This could be where the biggest decisions will be made: Brandel or Udoh, Schlottmann or Reed. Does Hinton finally make the 53? Others still on the roster include Sokol and Vederian Lowe.

Tim Parrish (OT) was released prior to Davis.

The one cut that somewhat intrigues me is Alec Lindstrom from BC -- undrafted Cowboy free agent center.
