Wife is HOT about this. The handler (not the jockey) who stops the horses. Gets them to the winner circle and keeps them from hurting the public was fired because he wacked the stallion after it bite the ever loving crap out of him.
Hes well known in the industry for being professional and good at his job.
I guess these horses arent taught much of anything other then forward as fast as you can. Stopping, loading in the chute, having manners etc is all entirely optional on these horses because tgey spend 100% of the training time/energy on fast/forward.
The infamous handler in the video is Greg Blasi, brother to another notorious asshole in the sport, Scott Blasi "Fuck these horses . . these cocksuckers, there's always something wrong with em". "You could not believe how many horses they hurt/kill, before they even get to the race track" 2013 internal investigation.
Disgusting treatment, should tell you all you need to know about the sport. Love them when they win for you, abuse them when they don't. Thousands of horses die on American racetracks every year. These are 2-3 year old horses, bones not truly formed yet (approximately 5-6 years). Chaotic scene, the horse does exactly what you want it do and you beat it in public.
The race, the excuse to get wasted, the clothing, all gross, all a joke. Thee best horses do not get the best treatment, they get abused, injected, beat, superglued, drugged for nothing but profit in a dying sport. 9 horses yesterday were injured or killed JUST YESTERDAY ALONE across tracks in the US. Fucking stupid sport for clowns and degenerates.

Doesn't sound that unlike any other professional sport. Drugging, doping, cleared for play, concussion ridden, all for fans to get wasted, jacked up and buy their clothing.
Tell me I am wrong.
I can agree with some of this but then again the athletes you are discussing choose to play, are compensated to play, and they don't die on the field, daily.
It's tough to support many sporting leagues these days with the hypocrisy, cheap advertising, bullshit, the NFL is a crack dealer, end of story. But sports that involves the enslavement of animals is stupid in 2022.
I used to believe it was only the low brow tracks across America until the exposes started going after KY, Santa Anita, and Saratoga Springs (where I grew up btw). The abuse, the ugliness, its across the sport as a
Animal advocates shut down the circus
Animal advocates are shutting down dog racing (super cruel sport)
Animal advocates will shut down horse racing
Let me introduce this thing called the NCAA
Hey, I specified professional sports...

Agree entirely. The racing industry is fucked up on many many levels.
TN walker showing is also really messed up.
Tennessee Walking is cruelty. Applying caustic chemicals to burn the feet of the horses, heavy weights and shoes to their hooves, all for their gait to be exaggerated. For high stepping.
It's simple, apply these same treatments to the feet of the owners and trainers, if they can't take the pain, neither should the horses.
The f@&king crazy thing is, you could in theory get many horses (theyed need to be quite athletic) to do that exaggerated walk but it would require years of skilled work and past the show ring it has no purpose.
The aholes doing this to horses do it because they can get much quicker results with significantly less work.

Dog shows. Dog breeding. Any time money is involved, corruption follows. Reminds me of another sensitive topic. But I digress.
Absolutely.

My grandfather was a very gifted and well respected blacksmith, he would use his horseshoes to change the way a horse would step, stride, etc. Think of it as orthopedics for horses, a little more weight here, a little less there, and it would completely change the horse's gait over time. Millions have seen his work and never heard of him, Bud was his biggest customer for over 25 years, I have always loved watching the Clydesdales.

That's awesome. What a random but unique and cool talent.
Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike won't run the Preakness Stakes "Our original plan for Rich Strike was contingent on the KY Derby, should we not run in the Derby we would point toward the Preakness, should we run in the Derby, subject to the race outcome & the condition of our horse, we would give him more recovery time & rest and run in the Belmont, or another race and stay on course to run with 5 or 6 weeks rest between races," the statement said.
Dawson said it was "very, very tempting" to race in the Preakness after their Derby win, adding it "would be a great honor."
"However, after much discussion & consideration with my trainer, Eric Reed & a few others, we are going to stay with our plan of what's best for Ritchie is what's best for our group, and pass on running in the Preakness, and point toward the Belmont in approximately 5 weeks," the statement said.
If Dawson's strategy goes according to plan, Rich Strike will return to the race track June 11 for the 154th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

They care about the money made from the horse. Not so much the horse themselves.
Now they can prove me wrong by keeping the horse for the next 15-17 years of its natural life post the race (yes Derby winners are also sent to slaughter in their lives). But the percentages on industry standards, is that he could be one of the 10,000 other thoroughbreds that will be sent to slaughter this year. If not this year, then soon, well unless he dies on the track like 2,100 of them did last year.
That pix is terrible...

I understand and do agree with your passion to protect horses and to change the industry. But, have to ask, do you have evidence that the owner/trainers of Rich Strike are bad actors and abusive to their horses. Shrug, maybe they are the worst ever, average or good horse people. I'm not ready to condemn someone without evidence, YMMV. Condemnation of practices by the industry overall seems appropriate but stopping short of condemning owners/trainers without evidence.
