I don't disagree. Phillips is the best I watched. He does things with his hands naturally and instinctively that others have to be taught. But the concussions scare me, as does his reputation as a party guy, as does his "music career," which I have a hunch played a part in his willingness to "retire." I like guys that need to be dragged off the football field.

Oweh's 4.3 speed is tantalizing. But if he's that fast, why no sacks? The player I think is being underrated a little is Joe Tryon. The people who tend to know things (McGinn, Brandt, DJ) have him much higher than everyone else. 

Agreed on Tryon. One thing for sure is I'd love to pick up a really good O-Lineman along with a pass rusher. Really hate not having that 2nd round pick right about now.

7.01 3 cone for Jaelan Phillips. And he's not happy with it.

It's over. He's the best edge defender in this class and there isn't a close second.

I've been on the Jaelen Phillips bandwagon a while and he showed out today.  The tape sticks out and the athletic ability matches.  All about that medical.

To me, I'd have zero issue if the Vikings took Phillips or Rousseau, who I also love as just a freak athlete. I think we have done enough in free agency filling holes to where we could gamble a little bit on either player. Yes we likely need a couple offensive lineman as the glaring need currently but this is a deep group where we could grab a starter in the 3rd round or in a trade up back into the 2nd round. 

Is it draft day yet?

Best edge rusher in this draft easily as far as pass rush package. “Testing” numbers today confirm he is an athletic freak show. Medical/durability is the question.

Just curious as to what you aren't seeing. I realize his get off is just run of the mill, but...damn. Saw a highlight of him running down field step for step with a RB on a wheel route... That was enough for me when paired with otherworldly production and measurables...

Miami schemed up a lot of his production and teams didn't game plan for him. People look at 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for a loss and say "wow this guys phenomenal". Sure, he had a great start to the season when nobody knew who he was. 9 of his 15.5 sacks game in the first 5 games of the season and he never posted more than a single sack in a game over the final 8. 12 of his 19.5 TFL game in his first 5 games as well. So you have 5 games of pure domination and then 8 games where he was handled. 

He improved over those last 8 games but his lack of functional power and leverage were taken advantage of. That will have to change before he can do anything in the NFL. They also pass set against him differently since his get-off isn't great. He's raw and his pass rush technique & plan will improve, but he is not the player the media chalks him up as. He has a long way to go before he even produces in the NFL.

Remember how Dallas passed on Moss because Irvin was such a distraction? Wonder if Hunter's neck is the reason we pass on Phillips.

Its not just the speed, its the entire package. Although he doesn't have a plan he shows the ability to win with either power or speed and gave OTs problems every week. With small technical changes he might blow up. He also got plenty of pressures, just no sacks to show for them. He did have 5 in 2019 and his pressure rate improved in 2020 so you could argue some of posing zero is bad luck. But its not like he deserved 10+, we're talking about the difference between 0 and 2-3. Its more about how you plan to use the player that is what served Danielle well. He only posted 4.5 sacks over three years at LSU.

  North Carolina LB Chazz Surratt recorded 25 reps in the bench press at his school's Pro Day on Monday. At first glance, 25 reps wouldn't be much to write home about for a linebacker. But in the case of Surratt (6'2/229) the number is noteworthy, as he began his college career as a quarterback. That was just one of the positive numbers that he posted on Monday, as Surratt also clocked in a 4.60 seconds in the 40 and recorded a time of 4.18 seconds in the short shuttle. Surratt is projected to be right on that Day 2/3 fringe, as he has a shot of hearing his name called in Round 3.

  North Carolina RB Javonte Williams recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.58 seconds at his school's Pro Day on Monday. While that isn't necessarily a "great" time for a running back, Williams (5'10/220) has long been a back who's more valued for his power than his speed. "The big concern when you watched him on film, though, was did he have that explosiveness and home run speed? He did run the 4.58 today, so that will be the concern for those who did have concerns about the speed," former NFL player personnel executive and current NFL Network contributor Marc Ross said. "He didn't really blow it out with that, but that is not his game. His game is the power, his game is the shiftiness, his game is the grind it out type style that does suit itself well for the NFL." Williams is projected by some analysts to be a Day 2 selection in next month's draft.
