I mean even though it was 14 years ago. He's guilty of being a jerk. Say I didn't ever have aspersions of someday seeking office, which I sure don't. Something inside of me would have told me wearing blackface and mocking people who survived a catastrophic event was uncool. I know what that something is. I call it a conscience.
Yabbut it's not "uncool." It's racist. Why are we so afraid to call it what it is? Would you ever put black face on and go to a party mocking Katrina victims? Of course not, you're not a racist. That's something a racist does.

It reminds me of the Mel Gibson thing several years ago. He gets pulled over for DUI and starts ranting about Jews. His defense? He was drunk. Really, Mel? I don't know about anyone else, but I've never ranted about Jews or anyone else when I've had too many.
Don't "you guys" ever get tired of calling everyone you don't agree with "a racist"?  There is a difference between being stupid... and actually, literally hating people of a different race.  Granted, racism is rooted in ignorance... but that doesn't mean that every ignorant act is racist.

By the way, which political party is it that says people of color need help- because they could never be successful on their own merits?  And which party supports abortion on demand, even though it is unbelievably tilted towards the elimination of black people?  And which party actually (and openly) supports the idea of voting for a person: based SOLELY on their skin pigmentation?

There is racism in our world; but you cheapen what it means when you throw around the term so loosely (and casually).  I suppose... if I were a different kind of person... I could say that that makes you a racist.  But I'm not that kind of person.
God, you guys sure hate it when someone talks about racism.
Am I in a "you guys" group now? I've been mentioned twice now in a thread claiming "you guys". I'm going to guess I just got caught in the thread chain. I've never been in a "you guys" group. I'm more of a that guy. Really more like "that F...ing guy".
You're not in the "you guys" group that I mentioned.  You're way too intelligent (and intellectually honest) to throw that word around so casually.

No, I hate when someone trivializes it as a way of attacking someone else (with whom they disagree).
If by "trivialize it" you mean shining a light on it and exposing it wherever it exists, then I suppose you're right.

Trump wasn't a racist until he ran for president.  In fact, he got lots of awards for his "lifetime" of NOT being a racist.

I'll just make this statement. Putting on blackface in this day and age is stupid, ignorant and racist. Full stop.
It's pretty old-school, backwater s hit for sure. For a politician, just stupid.

There's always going to be all kinds of Ism's and phobias in this country - always has been. It does seem to me that the atmosphere today is more fertile for this ideology to be less hidden, more in the fore-front people are more brazen, I sense an angry white man syndrome out there.

This I abhor, along with growing Nationalism...And I consider myself a patriot too.

Trump has ALWAYS been a racist. Like he has always been known as a racist in NY. Oh maybe he had some black friends but that doesn't mean he wasn't known for being a racist. Dude has a long history of being known as a racist.

In the 1970's he was sued for racial discrimination by the DOJ. His stance on the "central park five" and how he still carries that stance today even though they have been exonerated. His fines for removing black workers to appease his clients. There is a lot more than that and those stories all originated LONG before he rode and escalator to announce his candidacy.

Embarrassing no. Racist yes. Because we now have a racist president, we have countless people no longer embarrassed by their bigotry. That's the biggest problem.
Your comment because we have a racist president is the answer to the question.  Before Trump was President or even in politics at all he was given the Elis Island award along with Rosa Parks and Muhamadd Ali, the Tree of Life award by the Jewish Natioal Fund, the Muhamadd Ali entrepreneur award, the Algemeiner Award for contributions between the US and Isreal, he was Time Person of the Year (I doubt Time would give this award to a racist), in 98 Jesse Jackson praised Trump up and down at a Rainbow Push Coalition Convention and had him as a guest.
It was only after he became President that he became this racist, bigot piece of garbage. People have no common sense anymore.  Racism has become the new destroy a person word.  Want to destroy a persons reputation call them a racist and they are finished, it doesnt matter if its true or not.  Im not trying to defend Trump or call you out for saying he is a racist but this is what I see as the problem now days.  Trump is a racist, homophobe, biggot , why ???  What has he actually done to be considered a racist ???  Because of Charlottesville? Because he said this when commenting about the violence Approx. 3:30 p.m.

President Trump addressed the nation, condemning the violence "on many sides" and saying "We must love each other, respect each other and cherish our history and our future together."
That makes a person a racist ????   Really, again no common sense.  Maybe people don't realize that the neo nazi scum bags marched in the streets the previous night as well.  They marched through the streets spewing their garbage and all without incident, why ?  because they were just ignored.  It wasnt until ANTIFA put out a call to action and showed up the next day  and confronted them.

Why is Trump a womanizer and a biggot ?  Because he paid a porn star to go away years before he was ever a politician ?  Why was never an issue when Clinton was nailing a young woman in the white house ?  Why was this never an issue when Clinton paid Paula Jones $800,000 to go away and Jennifer Flowers $250,000 to go away after an affair. Once again no common sense.

The problem in the country has is not that people are no longer embarrassed by their so called racism or bigotry, the problem is with social media deciding what is racist and biggotted. The medias full blown haterd of this president just fuels the problem.  The Buzzfeed story that NOT ONE news outlet fact checked, the latest story about the catholic kids supposedly being racist to a tribal elder turned out to be all false and the media ran with it for a couple days and some are still running it all started with SOCIAL MEDIA deciding these kids were yelling racist remarks at this guy so they are now racist.

Stories like this elections chief 's resignation are all about social media over reaction and the people reading this garbage not using and freaking common sense.  I don't know maybe the guy is a total racist douchebag, but maybe he is just a good everyday person that made a poor judgement call 14 years ago, but we will never know because this guys professional career is now ruined because was called the R-word and once social media calls you a racist you are just that.

I realize and do agree that Trump should not talk, he does not know how to speak politically and leaves himself wide open for comments but somebody has to tell me what the guy ever did to be considered a racist.

Totally disagree. I don't think racism is this little thing that is made too much out of. I think it's the opposite. I think it's an enormous problem, much bigger than we all thought. And I'm tired of people who try to minimize it as if it's "over." The Charleston shooter and the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooter and Charlottesville and the 40% increase in hate crimes and the increasingly unapologetic white supremacy rallies might have a thing or two to say about that.

It's like this dude in black face. People are so willing to simply say it was a "bad decision" or in "poor taste." No, it's fucking racist.

I will say this though. For a long time I was convinced that Trump wasn't as racist as much as he was an "opportunist" who knew that a large part of his base was. The wall is a good example. Everyone knows the wall is the stupidest idea in the history of stupid ideas. And it will never happen. I'm pretty sure Trump knows that, too. But it's good for him politically because it's a hot seller among the aforementioned base.
I am not saying there isnt a racism problem in this country because there is.  It's when social media dictates who and what are racist thats the problem and what you just said about a large part of his base is racist proves my point.  I don't know if I would consider myself a part of Trumps base but I do support his policies not so much him personally.  So because of that I am a racist to you and you don't know me AT ALL. This is why all the polls are wrong when it comes to Trump.  A lot of his supporters  just stay in the shadows quietly supporting him because they don't want to be part of the Trumps base is racist crap, because like I said social media will destroy you if they find out.  I totally disagree that racism is a much bigger problem now then ever before.  Its what is defined as racism that has changed.  Painting your face black to play a black person in costume ten years ago would have been considered on the same lines as being the Tonto when dressing as the lone ranger and Tonto.  Were the Wayons brothers racist for dressing as white chicks in the movie ??  I was at a halloween costume contest this year and the winning couple were the devil and an angel.  The angel was a black lady with her face painted white to fit the part, is she a racist ?  Hobby lobby was racist for having a table setting display with a vase for a center piece with a couple cotton stems in it.  Social media attacked them as being racist and insensitive so they had to apologize to limit the damage and remove the display.  There is your increase in racism in our country, the changing of the definition because nobody has any common sense anymore and is offended by everything.

Would you go to a Halloween party in black face wearing a shirt that said "Katrina Victim"? Think about why he chose to be black. Certainly there were victims in New Orleans who were white. Why did he choose to be black?

You have said previously not to paint one group with the same brush and yet you are using the "you guys" to paint one group with the same brush.

I don't call everyone that disagrees racist. That is a lazy cop out. I do call out racism. To suggest that someone calls another person that disagrees with them racist is dismissive. It is an easy way to ignore their point of view. To say that this person called me a racist because they disagree is an attempt to shut down being called out and to minimize the exchange. It's like that fake news garbage. You don't agree with something, call it fake news.

It's not about needing help because they can't be successful on their own merits. It's about the fact that the playing field isn't equal and there are systemic and institutional barriers in place. Some people beat the odds and work beyond that, others do not. The so-called abortion on demand is tilted towards the poor and minorities but it is the individual who gets to make the choice as it should be.

I don't throw the word racism around loosely or casually. I witnessed my parents go through it as they became acclimated to life in the United States. It is something that is deeply ingrained in the fabric of this country and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. But it is important to address it. It is important to fight for those who can't fight for themselves or feel they don't have a voice.

You know he's been a racist... because some folks accused him of it.  Or because you think that some of his actions were borne out of a racist heart.
Yet he was one of the inaugural recipients of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor (given by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations) for "patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity".  So, apparently, there were some people who DIDN'T think he was racist.  They even gave him an award for it.
Was he accused of racism?  Yep.  I have been, too... so that accusation doesn't hold much sway for me.  The guy has been in the public eye for over a decade... and I don't recall him EVER being attacked as being anti-gay or racist... UNTIL he "became" a Republican.  So it sure does appear to me that this is just another thinly veiled liberal attack on someone who disagrees with him.
And I don't even like the guy.  I think he's an idiot.  And I'm not at all convinced he's conservative (although he does make decisions that appease *some* of his base).
But if the #MeToo movement has taught us anything... it's that you don't have to actually be guilty of anything in order to be convicted and punished by "the mob".  I'm just glad that I'm not part of "the mob".
