I just don't think Sam Darnold plays into the equation that much. Teddy's only on a one year contract. He's just trying to show teams that he's healthy and show off his arm. I think his main goal is just to beat McCown and Darnold for the game one starting position and to put some productive games on tape. He just needs to get rid of the idea that his knee can't be trusted.

According to ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini, Teddy Bridgewater's trade value is "trending upward."
Cimini said the former Viking was "one of the bright spots" at last week's OTAs. The Jets originally signed Bridgewater with the intent of trading him for a draft pick, but Cimini cautions that coach Todd Bowles will start the best quarterback and that could very well be Bridgewater. Even in the unlikely event that he does win the starting job this summer, Bridgewater would just be keeping the seat warm for first-round rookie Sam Darnold.
I would think unless Teddy just lights it up, this is probably the case. The franchise has too much invested in the rook. But Teddy can do so much for his brand and himself if he does well until then. That's got to be defined as a win for him - especially if he becomes a valuable asset in the league.
They have a lot invested in Darnold, but no urgency to play him. I think most NFL personnel people would say the best thing for a rookie QB is to sit a year, especially if the supporting cast isn't very good.
But because Teddy's on a 1-year deal, it would be in the Jets best interest (and Teddy's) to feature him in the preseason and then trade him. Only question I have is what happens if the Jets start seeing the pre-injury Teddy? The one who was the consensus #1 overall pick in 2014 until a bad pro day? The one who broke 91 team records as a rookie? That could make things very dicey in NYC.

they'll say it's a nice problem to have, how they navigate it is a whole other story. Hell, if he starts looking like the consensus overall #1 pick? That will give pause to many fans of the purple too - unless KC is all pro. Thats a win win for everyone then I guess - glass 1/2 full today!!
Teddy probably has more to prove then McCown. If Josh is not careful he will be the odd man out. It still feel like they are showcasing him to drum up trade buzz. The article maroon poster seems to show writers are noticing and not just the team promoting.
Good luck Teddy. Make the most of your chance before they give the job to the rookie. It's all you can control.
I dont see Teddy as for sure being traded. If he is the better QB the Jets would be stupid to trade him away (to miami of all teams) and then have to face him twice a year. I know they spent a lot of draft currency on their first rounder, but if Teddy is the better QB they would be much better served to eat the sunk costs... let Darnoldson grow for a few years and then try to get a Garrapallo type deal out of somebody or look at moving Teddy then once they know better what they have in the youngster. IMO, if Teddy is looking good for them the worst thing a team could do in that situation is to deal him out of town for an unproven player just because of some draft picks.
odds are Darnoldson will get a chance here or there over the next couple years due to a dinged Theodore and they will get a sneak peek anyway which will make their decision down the road much easier. Even if they have to pay Teddy, he would still likely come with a discount due to the knee concerns.

I don't believe Daroldson sits for more then a year, if that. You don't see a high 1st rounders sitting anymore unless it's behind a HOF. In which case it wouldn't likely be a high 1st, or one you traded up for. Sam will likely get into a game sometime this year. He won't come back out unless he's injured...imo. Jets need buzz and the rookie is the buzz they want. Not the one year rental. Like I say Teddy can only control his play on the field.

If Teddy continues to shine, I would not trade him. Good QBs are gold in this league. Hell with that; they're platinum. If I gambled a few peanuts on a very talented but damaged QB and I win, then I'm going to look like the smartest guy in the league. And Darnold is just my ace in the hole. Sam's value as a top 5 overall pick does not change. In fact, it's more likely to stay high if he doesn't play.

IMO the highest risk to the Jets front office/coaching staff would be to trade Teddy away (if he is indeed the best looking QB of the bunch) and then have the rookie struggle (which most do) while a Teddy led Dolphins kicks their ass twice a year. I have to think being the coach of the Jets is a very precarious position, especially after they gave up so much for a questionable QB.
