Jared Goff is very cerebral and Williams 'aint no' Goff. Caleb may turn out to not work with a Ben Johnson offense. Not sure he's got the processor for it.

Not sure goff was that cerebral early on either.  He may have grown, but the book on him with the Rams was that McVay was reading the D for him and getting him lined up early.  Once defenses figured out Goff couldn't do it on his own, they disguised until the 15 second cutoff.

But this comment is a huge dig at the previous regime IMO
"there's a lot more going on mentally than probably there's ever been for him."

With regard to Goff, a great offensive line has allowed him to wheel and deal. Once he gets pressure, he will fold just like Arron Rodgers, Tom Brady and every other QB. Brady and Rodgers were hard to get pressure on even when their O-lines weren't great, because they knew the offense so well they could unload the ball quickly. And of course, Rodgers line could hold as much as they wanted. But I remember Brady in his hey day having all day to throw. Goff isn't that guy. Hit him early and he will unravel!

Yes the comment is an indictment on the previous regime which is no surprise, when it comes to Caleb. We shall see if he has the mental capacity to perform to the new coaches expectations. I feel it is possible but the odds aren't great!

In fact, I think if Flores does to Caleb what I think he'll do (make him look stupid), we could hear some boos in Soldier Field, especially if McCarthy plays well. It's early and I'm not going to put the cart before our chickens are hatched, but there could be a lot of pent up frustration let loose in Chicago if Williams continues to look like a bust...especially after Trubisky and Fields.

It's the way I see it and I don't see Green Bay as much of a rival this year as well. I place a lot of faith in the Vikings coaching staff, I mean, look what they did with Darnold last year. JJ just needs to be an average QB and take care of the ball and they will do well. By the end of the season JJ should be ready to do more than manage games.
Early on, JJ doesn't need to win games, just manage them. With time and experience he will be able to win games as well.
This team has a chance to do something special and I think the players feel that way too!

Ben Johnson's offense is meant for a veteran QB or a rookie QB to sit for a year to absorb, because most college QBs RARELY do that stuff. He also has to unlearn what he learned last year. This is a dicey situation because Caleb was mostly hero ball in college. Hey Tennessee: better keep it simple for Cam Ward.

Yeah we will see what Johnson and Caleb Williams can do together but you're right.

Considering they are both former #1 picks, I can't think of two QBs more dissimilar than Caleb Williams and Jared Goof.

I think Goff was severely underrated.  He took the Rams to the SuperBowl.  Granted they lost, but still I always thought he was the quintessential on-time QB.  He played within the system.  He wasn't ever going to give you that Mahomes underhanded scramble toss, or the Lamar Jackson, but as was stated, you give him a decent OL, and a decent coordinator and he will sit back there and pick you apart.  He did it in LA and he does it in Detroit.

As for Williams, I believe he is what we thought he was (RIP Denny).  I am not sure he is so much of an on-time QB as he is a try to superman as soon as the first read breaks down.  From what I have seen in Ben Johnson's offense, that is oil and water.  Johnson wants that on-time, sit in the pocket and progress reads.  So which one will change if any?  Will Johnson bend his offense to fit what Caleb wants to do, or will Caleb fit in to the Johnson offense?  Early reports out of camp are that  Johnson is trying to force his way.
