I think part of the strategy is to excite the fan-base after dismal seasons. Soon NFL franchises will be asking season tix holders for their 2025 commitment/deposits ($$$). Nothing seeds hope more for fans than a new HC, Draft or Free Agency.

Teams aren’t always interviewing guys specifically for the one specific spot, it also gives them a chance to get to know who all is out there and interview guys for future positions that might open up. So maybe they technically can’t interview for an OC position, but you can interview them for a HC position, and when their situation changes they’re already on your short list, or you know you don’t like them at all and don’t have to hold up your interviewing process when their team is in the playoffs and they can’t be interviewed yet. I think it’s as much networking as it is an actual interview for a specific job. |
