100% agree on the bold. Often times it even seems we rush the play.
He calls them “gotta have it moments and plays”. The Detroit game comes to mind.
That’s a growth opportunity for him.
Also we used to be one of the deadliest teams in the red zone. Hope we can get back to that.

One thing that was a surprise to me was the amount of purple in the stands. My estimate was about 30%

Minnesota dominated time of possession, most TOP by any team in any game this year so far in the league. It was 3 redzone INTs, period. Not sure why you'd go to blaming KOC here? But I will agree that KOC has lost trust in Darnold, how could he not? At some point, you have to turtle up from a game plan perspective a bit in the 4th to avoid another ridiculous and demoralizing redzone INT and losing the game.
"The #Vikings had the ball for 42 minutes and 44 seconds today against the #Jaguars, which is the most by any team in a game this season. Yet zero touchdowns were scored."
I dont think KOC is a bad oc/play caller, but I think his calls in certain key situations are suspect and open to question.
Something changed with the O and I dont think that falls entirely on Darnold. JJ isnt getting open near as often and why when you know JJ is going to draw a double, do you have Addison lined up on the same side so often? Addy is a tough cover, put him on the easy side of the street and let him work, especially now that teams are being forced to cover Hock and others. I dont know if its scheme or if its effort, but our scheme/receivers need to be giving Darnold better looks, and Darnold needs to learn to lead a damn receiver before he gets somebody killed.
If I see the same shit next week I think I will start the chants for Mullins, sure he is just as likely to break your heart with interceptions, but he makes big plays along the way typically, those are where Darnolds game has fallen off the most in the last month IMO.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Our offense is designed to get JJ easy matchups and force-feeding him the ball, on longer intermediate routes. I think it would be pretty normal for a guy who maybe doesn’t have a 100% grasp on a playcall against all defenses to “lock on to JJ”. I would think that there’s probably a sizeable number of plays where perhaps, not all the receivers are in the mix for catching the ball, so even if they are open, they were mostly just a decoy in the play design, and not really crossing Darnold’s mind. I think it’s one of those things where if you can take away the top 2 options, which are the last 2 options, you can hope to force him into a mistake.

Bercich had an interesting perspective to share today regarding the passing offense;
DC's are now dropping 7 (sometimes 8) into coverage. That means the TE's have to feast and thats exactly what we've seen from Oliver and Oliver/TJH yesterday.
So they (the Vikings O) are going to have to balance that coverage reality with feeding JJ the ball. KOC loves to go downfield too and thats just gotten tougher - especially since those plays take a while to develop.
How do they balance getting your playmaker the ball with the coverages the D is employing?
Probably more sweeps, bunches etc...That isnt as scary as JJ catching one downfield for sure.

I think for most of the game the Jaguars put their best corner on Addison and had JJ doubled.

Cashman returning made all the difference.

This is what fans who complain about play calling never take into consideration: what the D is doing. Its just if Play A worked, then its a 'good' play call. Way too simplistic a response, its more nuanced than that. And how do the players execute those plays? That's why you have to keep plugging with the process and not be results oriented every play. Fans micromanage and dissect every play, way too close to the trees to see the forest sometimes.

The ol' Carter Moss treatment. The Jags have some pretty solid corners too.

I agree and am guilty as charged!
I see a lack of execution as a much bigger problem than play calling.
