I doubt Michael Penix will be close enough but if we follow the example set by the Lions and trade up from 20 to 10 for a 3rd rounder we may be able to get him.
There will somebody in that group that falls to our reach.  Penix, McCarthy, Williams, Nix, Mayes  I have to think a couple more will emerge with at least one team going off script and taking somebody that we didnt think would go as early.
Guaranteed. Minnesota will have a choice of a QB with nice upside.....who that might be is the question. Its a deep QB class. And NFL GMs tend to not align with the media draft 'experts' when it come to whom and where for QBs.

Very rarely does the top pick end up being the best of the bunch anyway.  Its a crap shoot anyway.  Just take one of em and see what happens. I am excited to see what KOC can do with a talented rookie.  If he can get this much out of a QB who just arrived, imagine what he could do with someone who gets a whole offseason.
which is exactly why IMO nothing was gleaned from last nights performance by Dobbs to say one way or the other that he shouldnt be retained.
I know you keep saying this, but I do think there's something to be gleaned: he's exactly who he's been at other places. Again, he's still learning an offense and has been here a very short period, but his default isn't going to change much. Any interest in retaining Dobbs will be because they can't get Cousins off a 3 year deal and he'll be a cheap bridge QB. Not saying that isn't the way to possibly go. But Dobbs as a longer term starter in Minnesota? I think that's the least plausible scenario.
oh hell no to the long term starter notion,  he is a bridge QB at most for us.  I am just saying that I will gladly take him at 20ish over Kirk at 35-40 for 2 years. Give Dobbs a full offseason of reps with the ones and I dont think you see him throwing behind receivers,  I would also hope he isnt as tentative to get through his throw,  those balls sailing high were an indicator of him throwing off his back foot,  or at least not getting his weight transferred forward. I dont see Kirk coming back after a year layoff and being the guy we saw right before his injury,  I would be expecting him to play more like the guy we saw at times last year.  Tentative, slower reacting, mechanics off,  still a hell of an arm,  but just not worth the kind of money he will likely be wanting or the terms he would be expecting.

2024 QB's in camp should be;Dobbs, Hall, and one of the following;Maye, McCarthy, Penix, Daniels, or Nix.

That could be very well how it ends up.

I think Cousins is going to have make any potential deal at least a little cap friendly to be fully considered. If he does, he's probably the leader in the clubhouse IMO. I just feel KOC thinks Kirko has a mastery of his offense now.
QB is QB but Dalvin, Thielen, and Cleveland all knew the offense too…

The "Tank" is defiantly not on.  All you're doing is setting yourself up for some major disappointments this next off-season...

This thread has been on the front page. Then not. It’s a running joke at this point based on whether we win or lose.

I think in our offense Dobbs will show enough to get a decent contract by someone that if we are going to go QB in the first I don't think we will match.  I think it is more likely that Cousins will be back than Dobbs, as I think they would be more likely to spend money on Cousins.

if the mentality is to let Dobbs walk,  then they need to get Hall back in there and see what they have there.  IMO the only reason to stick with Dobbs is to see if he shows enough growth to be the bridge QB to whoever we draft next spring.  I dont see any reason to hang onto Cousins as he will want his kings ransom as well as his usual handcuffing terms and will make it that much tougher to improve the roster around the QB position.  His time has past unless he really wants to play on the cheap and let KAM see if he can add enough pieces to our IOL to overcome Kirks short comings.... Or how good would Chris Jones look on our DL, or one of the other top tier DTs?

Jones had two sacks in three plays the other night, almost single-handedly killing a drive. KC wound up losing but the impact a guy like that can have is absolutely massive. Getting the defense off the field quickly and the ball right back to your offense to kill more clock and maybe get points is monumental. As good as Hunter has been, we do not have a Chris Jones level player on this team outside of JJ. In fairness, few teams do. KC played the Jones holdout situation perfectly and paying off big time for them. Mcduffie, Sneed, and their defense in general is impressive. If only their WRs weren’t about the worst in the league, ha.

If Dobbs goes on to sign a $20m/yr contract somewhere, does that get us a comp pick?

I dont believe so,  IIRC they have to be on our roster for 2 years to qualify for a comp pick,  but I could be thinking about the minority coaching hire compensatory thing.

It is only for minority hires.
