Cousins isn't going anywhere via trade. Not sure why some can't grasp that.

I just can't see it happening. Tell me what team will trade for Cousins and why? Cousins will refuse to be traded to the Jets as a part-year rental, waiting for Rodgers to return. It won't happen. NYJ are 2-3, soon to be 2-4 when they play the Eagles. Atlanta doesn't make any sense, they are winning with Desmond Ridder. They need to see what they have in that kid. I know some fans desperately want to see this happen....its not going to happen. Regardless of what I or you think of the Vikings, I'm quite sure KOC and company aren't ready to throw in the towel when basically the Vikings are the best 1-4 team in the league.
Many of us as fans are ready to blow it up. But its not that easy. And the assets the Vikings have I'm not sure they'll get premium value for in a trade. And if I'm Cousins, I just ride this year out and see what's what as a FA next year. The Vikings are in a less than ideal situation now by having waited, but at the same time who knew they'd turn the ball over so damn much and so consistently? And the Vikings were in every damn loss even with the gross turnovers. Its a frustrating place for the team to be and there's no easy remedy.

It's more than that. There's a very good reason why QBs are never traded mid-season.
Reving up the tank now. Jefferson on IR

I think you're probably right. The time to move Kirk was right after Rodgers went down, we were 0-2, there was buzz about the Jets having inquired.
You have to make that move when there's high uncertainty, high risk, and pressure on the Jets to give up more. The deeper into the season you go the more things look settled, or better, or not worth the risk. It was a longshot to begin with, though I was on board if it happened.

ok, just checking to see if this was an insider thing, or your speculation. I think Kirk would waive his no trade if the potential trade partner was willing to do an extension right away so that Kirk gets some security from the deal. I agree he wouldnt waive the no trade for a temporary location, his family means to much to him and he wouldnt want to be away, but at the same time he wouldnt want to move them, just to move again when the season is over.
I am also starting to agree on the "with who" part, which is why I was saying the sooner the better since the season started, if he walks we potentially get a late 3rd round compensatory pick in 25, if we can move him this year he is worth much more, however the longer we hold onto him, the less potential suitors there might be, unless some contender loses their starter, which is pretty much all we are down to now.
as far as where the team is at right now, some of us werent convinced of the teams make up last year, when everything was falling the teams way, some of us werent convinced ( and still arent) that a change at DC and oline continuity were all that was missing from getting to that point. Unless KAM really has some magic up his sleeve, I dont see this team being any closer now than we were 2 years ago, maybe further away with KC being a pending FA, JJ up against his new deal now, and really no hits out of the draft at positions of need other than ones that have been created since KAMs arrival. We are still weak at IOL, DL, LB, DB, which is pretty much where we were 2 years ago.

It's more than that. There's a very good reason why QBs are never traded mid-season.
Atlanta makes more sense than the Jets. I think the Jets are more comfortable now rolling with Wilson (and his limitations) and hoping Rodgers comes back healthy next year. I don't think they want to invest more draft capital and money into what could be a 1-year rental either. Could be wrong...
That said, Atlanta might be the perfect trade partner if the Vikings are looking to move Kirk. They have all their picks (Jets have their 1st and 2nd tied up with the Rodgers real) and Ridder... despite playing better this week doesn't look like a starter to me. Kirk with that running game and play action could easily vault Atlanta to the top of that division.
I think Atlanta is one of the few teams that would make an in-season trade for Kirk. And it wouldn't be about just this year, he could be their guy for at least the next couple years while they continue to groom Ridder and or their next QB.

I keep coming back to why wouldn't the vikings do the same thing then? Why not keep Cousins while grooming whomever they pick this draft. Ideally a year or two. GMs and Coaches have short shelf lives. If KAM and KOC put together a couple losing seasons in a row that could be the end of their NFL careers.

As AGR said: why wouldn't Minnesota do this same exact thing in theory? Atlanta isn't going to trade for Cousins when they currently have a winning record.
Bottom line is teams want to utilize that rookie QB contract to its fullest. So what did sitting Love do for him behind Rodgers? I think a QB either gets it or he doesn't get it (see Brock Purdy). You have to start a rookie QB no later than his sophomore season in the NFL, straight up. Waiting doesn't guarantee anything except putting off looking for the next guy.
