Minnesota Vikings roster
#21
I get the trepidation with some of our depth issues at certain spots (CB, DL, pass rush, IOL) but we still have a great offense that should be even better in Year 2 of KOC's tenure.

People also gloss over how much better we were situationally last season compared to our prior two years under Zimmer.  That's all from our new HC and should still be a strength of this team this season.

In today's NFL offense is king and we'll have one that can score with the best of em. The defense was our Achilles heel as the season went on and we morphed from a big play artist (got a lot of turnovers) that gave up yards to just soft coverage.  The thing is we hired a great defensive mind in Flores who should be able to scheme a pass rush with his exotic blitz packages.  I think fans are underrating the impact he'll have on our defense.

I think our floor is 9 wins with O'Connell and our offensive playmakers and we could get 12-13 wins if the defense improves to league average in yards/points allowed with some sizzle (sacks and turnovers).

Oh the great Rick Spielman and his outstanding drafts.
2019
1st round     Garrett Bradbury
2nd round    Irv Smith Jr
4th round    Dru Samia
5th round    Cameron Smith
6th round     Armon Watts

2018
1st round    Mike Hughes
4th round    Jalyn Holmes
6th round    Colby Gossett

2017
3rd round     Pat Elfein
4th round      Ben Gedeon

I think the picture is pretty clear that the draft is a crap shoot at best and the almighty Rick Spielman didn't do shit to help the team win a Super Bowl.  In fact other than his obsession of having 10 picks every draft and his love of players drafted in the 7th round he wasn't worth a shit and probably why he hasn't gotten another job.  Kwesi may take awhile to build this team but he certainly isn't going to be any worse than Spielman.
So let's look at what you conveniently omitted - 2017 he traded up to get Dalvin, 2018 got our bookend OT O'Neil in the 2nd, a solid TE Conklin in the 5th and one of the best kickers in the NFL in Carlson in the 6th and in 2019 our current starting RB in the 3rd.  Followed that up in 2020 the 2nd top player in league in JJ and Osborne in the 5th and 2021 picked up one of best LTs in the league in Darrisaw and our starting safety in the 4th.  And yes this team is in much worse hands with Kwesi.
Oh its another Kwesi hater from another Viking forum to jump into the Kwesi sucks thread.  Rick had his share of hits but he also had plenty of misses, guess thats why he has been fired twice and still out of a job running a team.  If this was still Ricks team we would have a bunch of overpaid veterans still bloating the salary cap.  At least Kwesi saw the flaws and starting cutting the deadwood from the team but he isnt going to be able to replace the talent in two drafts.  Let the preseason playout before saying every decision he made this offseason was clueless.
Agreed. I mean, if KAM ends up stinking, I'm all over it. But the team just won 13 games and hasn't played ONE real game this new year and the criticism from a few is really premature and unwarranted. He's also stuck with a cap number he had nothing to do with. He's got all the maneuverability of a guy in a phone booth currently.

Even knee jerk says this is knee jerk at this point. I've called out how the roster looks right now at face value, but how can I blame KAM at this point? And I also admit I might be wrong. Let's play some games.

Lots of hate for a guy who just had a 13 win season in his inaugural year on the job, not to mention the cap space we're staring at for '24 and '25. Let's pump the brakes a bit until he actually gives us a reason to call him out.

Careful now Sticky, you don't want to be accused of being negative. Nobody wants to hear it unless you think this team is winning 12 games and going to the Super Bowl...

Reality is this is a paper thin roster lacking depth almost everywhere. Secondary, offensive line, defensive line, and arguments could be made for other positional groups..
Supa, you wanna know the difference? Like most of us, Sticky calls out both the positives and the negatives as he sees them. Whether it's about ownership, the GM, the QB, the coaching staff, the draft....when nearly 100% of your posts are negative, it's hard to take you seriously. You come across as a crank with an agenda.
This from the guy who just tried to sell us Lewis Cine as having super star potential in another post. You are literally the king of blowing smoke up everyone's asses on any and every player, roster move, and front office member in the organization. You aren't objectionable, you're a homer...so I'll take what you say with a grain of salt. My agenda is I want to see this team get to a Super Bowl and think they've done everything ass backwards since the day they let Rick Spielman walk out the door. Kwesi hasn't shown anything in the way of roster moves or identifying talent. That's not an agenda, that's just fact...and his shortcomings in those areas are WHY we are lacking roster depth and continuing to tinker by signing XFL players and street free agents.
You're so twisted by negativity you can't even see straight. Read again what I said about Cine...in several posts. Feel free to repost here. Go ahead. And if you still think it's blowing smoke up up people's asses then your judgement and perception of reality is so far out of whack, you should probably sit down before you fall over.

Twisted by negativity!? Lol. I give an honest assessment and reasoning as to why I think we are in for a down year and people lose their minds. You on the other hand are trying to sell Cine (if he can tackle) and Asamoah as stars. You are entitled to your opinions but understand you look like a soap boxer routinely blowing purple smoke up people's asses.

Tell you what Maroon, I'll buy you a steak dinner when Cine and Asamoah become pro bowlers. If not, you can buy me one. Deal?
Look, Cine is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. As you know, but just continue to ignore, is that Cine has had good plays and bad. I mention both, because i don't have an agenda. You mention only the bad. Given that fact, you shouldn't expect to be taken seriously.
An agenda!? You try to sell everyone in EVERY post that this is a star studded team that is making all the right moves towards the future and will be a Super bowl contender this year and years to come. I wholeheartedly disagree with you and the direction of this franchise under current management.

As far as Cine goes, he's made a few plays but he's also missed some big ones and is still running 4th on the depth chart. You think the guys got star potential, well put your money where your mouth is, take the bet, or stop blowing smoke up our asses. Cine and Asamoah, who you also think is a future super star. If they both become pro bowl players (low bar) for the Vikings by the end of their rookie deals (potential 5th year for Cine), then I'll happily send a $50 dollar gift card to you for a steak dinner. They don't, then you send me one. Deal?
Your bet? What are you, 11?

Here are my last three comments on Lewis Cine. If you read this as me (I think you meant) "blowing sunshine," so be it....
But overall, Cine is frustrating. Just ridiculous speed and pursuit. Seems to be in the right place a lot. A run blitz on another play was a good example. Awesome read, then he misses the tackle. How does a kid who played at Georgia not know how to tackle?
___

This was an interesting play. I'd like to know more about the run fits on this play. It looks like IPJ either has the B gap or he's reading the fullback who goes to the C gap. I suspect the rookie Spears was supposed to follow the fullback, but instead cut back through the A gap, which was filled well by Cine, who of course missed the tackle. The story of his camp: good reads, good pursuit, good speed, now make the fucking tackle.
___
His problems don't appear to be about mental lapses though. In that regard, he's playing pretty well. He's in the right place. He gets there quickly and with authority. He's been OK in coverage. He just misses tackles in run support. If he had simply made all those tackles, he would be the talk of the preseason. He's been everywhere. Now, everyone misses tackles. Even Harrison Smith. But Cine has missed 3 or 4 in two preseason games. That's alarming. If he can fix the tackling issue, I think we won't just have a starter, but a potential star.

If Sf84 wants to bet that Kwesi's drafts are total crap, why just include 2 players as possible pro bowlers?  Adding Addison would make it more interesting, albeit still childish, but more interesting.  I think Addison has a real shot at being a stud NFL WR.

Smells like chicken shit to me. You've been pimping these guys to us as future stars and any move Kwesi makes as gold for months, so put your money where your mouth is and take the bet. Are you not confident in your position because I'm confident in mine and I'll even lower the bar for you. If BOTH Cine and Asamoah receive second contracts with the Vikings, I'll tip my cap to you and buy you a steak dinner. If they don't, you buy me one. So take the bet or shut your yap because your constant fluffing in every post is growing old

Addison looks good. Bottom line is that it's too early to evaluate either of those drafts. I think this is a pretty accurate statement by Daniel Jeremiah.
“Usually the aim was if you could get three starters in the draft, that’s a really good draft,” said NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, a former NFL scout. “You’re talking about over a three-year process. So within three years, if you had come out of that with three guys who are solid starters, guys you’re not looking to replace — ‘winning players’ would be another phrase you’d hear — that’s a really, really solid draft. You get four? Man, you’re cooking with gas when you get four.”

Just another totally immature post.  Lol, I don't think Kwesi has done a great job, nor do I think he was the right choice.  But if I post anything negative about him, I have to be labeled a "hater" and some other BS.

Ummm this is a message board right?  Cause right now it feels like some Trump like site being brought down by a few vocal majority that has formed a clique of you either agree with us or we are going to shoot you down and label you.  Go ahead and look at my two posts on this thread, one is a very pro Cousins post along with my other one, but I have to have some tool label me and then others "like it" which is just such total BS.  I come here to be with Viking brother and sisters, but this has turned into an us or them site.

I can go to the other Viking forum and find plenty of posts by you trashing Kwesi and his player decisions.  And talk about immature you should fucking talk.  When ever somebody like you sees a post by somebody else that upsets you, time to inject the political slant.  Yea right move along because I'm done responding to your shit.
