VERDICT: Rittenhouse found not guilty on all counts
#21
Here's National data to ponder from:
https://www.statista.com/statistics/5851...ried-2016/

Number shot to death by police while unarmed (all races):
2021  20
2020  55
2019  41
2018  41

Considering the number of interactions between police and the public, it is very rare to be shot while unarmed.

Number shot to death by police while armed with a gun (all races):
2021   439
2020   643
2019   589
2018   549

Being armed with a gun does increase the number killed but note there is no differentiation between surrendering and following police officer direction versus an aggressive move with gun.  I would guess that the percentage shot while surrendering and following police directions is quite low but I am open to reading any available data suggesting otherwise.

What are your assumptions about the "black Kyle Rittenhouse"?  Is he going to surrender correctly like Kyle and follow police directions or something else?  You assume a high probability of getting shot while surrendering so must assuming the worst behavior, why?  I see no reason to assume the worst and am inclined to assume the best, ie follow what Rittenhouse did while surrendering.

Above link is to an article in the National Academy of Science.  An interesting conclusion from the NAS article:

"We find no evidence of anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparities across shootings, and White officers are not more likely to shoot minority civilians than non-White officers. Instead, race-specific crime strongly predicts civilian race. This suggests that increasing diversity among officers by itself is unlikely to reduce racial disparity in police shootings."

MB and PF, Do you have evidence that Kenosha police force is more likely to shoot minority civilians, particularly those who are surrendering?

This never should have gone to trial...it was clearly self defense.  Having said that, none of those people should have been there armed that day including Rittenhouse (and those he shot).  Hopefully, we've learned something during the summer of BLM...with Billions in damages and 20+ lives lost....more if you count those increased homicides due to defund efforts.  Peaceful protests...should be peaceful.
lol, yeah. Just a 17 year old and his gun, willing to travel. Let me guess, a 'patriot'. Right?
C'mon Sticky.  You know me better than that.  Which part of "none of those people should have been there armed that day including Rittenhouse" says that I supported what he did? I condemn all violence.  I notice none on the left want to condemn the rioters who burned and looted in Kenosha and around the Country.  They shouldn't have been there either...  Nothing says justice and moral superiority like burning down and looting unrelated businesses...(often minority owned btw).  The Democratic Wisconsin Governor failed to act to protect the city.  The National Guard had 500 members teed up and ready....but it didn't fit the politics to deploy them.  They should have been there protecting the businesses and maintaining order instead of the Rittenhouses of the world.  Here in Madison, our main downtown retail and restaurant area, State Street, is still boarded up since the Floyd protests with "social justice" murals over the plywood.  Businesses have been instructed to comply or face further looting, arson and destruction.  I have a friend with a shop down there...he's a hard core liberal...but he is losing faith in his fellow Democrats because of action and inaction.  He's forced to keep his business boarded up with social justice murals which dramatically affects traffic and business.  It will likely bankrupt him.  He describes it as being raped /impregnated and forced to name the baby after the rapist.

In terms of your comment on travel...I love that commentary from the leftist media.  You do realize Rittenhouse's dad lives in Kenosha, Rittenhouse worked in Kenosha and his mother lives in Antioch, Il which is 14 miles away?  You can get there in less than 15 minutes by car.  If you were protesting in Minneapolis and drove in from one of the suburbs like Bloomington...it would take you twice as long.  You didn't actually watch the trial did you?  If you did, you'd know that Rittenhouse was in Kenosha the day before working as a lifeguard and stayed the night before at his sister's boyfriend's house...as the curfew went into effect.  The two of them got up the next day and spent the early part of the day cleaning graffiti off a school...but he was there clearly looking for trouble...unlike those nice young facemasked antifa guys who spent the early part of the day loading up molotov cocktails and delivering bricks for their peaceful protests.  Can't you join me in condemning all violence or do we have to play these games and pretend the violence in Kenosha and over the last year didn't happen?  Occupy a police station and attack / burn Federal buildings...peaceful protests, storm the Interior Dept building...peaceful protest.  "Storm" the capital...insurrection.  Did you see most of those Jan 6th dufuses...it looked like a tour group walking by the Capitol officers.  I'm certainly not making excuses...once again I condemn...ALL VIOLENCE AND LAWLESSNESS.  They should and are being held accountable.  Many have been imprisoned for 10 months awaiting trials.  Seems to me the modern day left encourages the right kind of violence and lawlessness to further divide our country while calling out those that oppose.  That's a shame.

And btw...Rittenhouse reported himself to police and tried to turn himself in...they sent him home where he yet again turned himself in to the Antioch police.  Compare that to the black clad, facemasked "peaceful" protesters who hide their identities..but Rittenhouse bad...protesters good.  Condemn one..condemn them all.

Still waiting.  I guess running over the dancing grannies and leaving 5 dead and 20 something in the hospital is just the start of the Revolution....

And let me apologize to those on the left for using the term "looting".  Evidently, it's offensive to the left as well as all the other new things.  In fairness, it would be easier to keep a list of things that aren't offensive to the left these days....

"Looting is a term that we typically use when people of color or urban dwellers are doing something"

So if we don't engage, we're wrong. But if we do engage and the thread turns into a shit show, that's fine?

My opinion has already been encapsulated here. Isn't that enough? Or do I need to post links ad nauseam about this case that agree with my take?
