In case anyone was wondering... here's who Obama gave the Medal of Freedom to.  Please feel free to explain how Rush is not just as worthy as some of these folks:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Ellen DeGeneres
Robert De Niro
Bill and Melinda Gates
Tom Hanks
Michael Jordan
Lorne Michaels (???)
Robert Redford
Diana Ross
Vin Scully
Bruce Springsteen
Cicely Tyson
Looks like a pretty good list to me. You'll be sure to let me know when any of them sing a song called "Barack the Magic Negro," or refer to the first daughter as "The White House dog" or make fun of Michael J Fox's Parkinsons.

LOL a good list LOL.  I guess we all get to have our opinions.  I had no idea there was a "I like you" award the President gave out titled oddly enough the Medal Freedom???
There hasn't been a politician on either side of the aisle (save Ron Paul) who has given a damn about your or my freedom in decades.
Oh...you think the award is meant to be taken literally? Like everyone who gets it has to further American "freedom" in some way? I'm guessing you also think the Nobel Peace Prize is about Peace? LOL.

This is an award very often given to celebrities for their achievement in whatever. There have been hundreds. I don't think anyone has a problem with that. The problem that I have with Rush Limbaugh receiving it isn't about the fact that he's a celebrity. That would be ridiculous. As ridiculous as Pump's post.

The only thing Rush Limbaugh has ever furthered is hatred and divisiveness and racism. And in that way, he's lot like the piece of shit who gave him the award.
I never cared for Rush but if this is some popularity award,Trump can give it to whomever he wants. His award his call.
That's it in a nutshell for me as well.  If the dems dont want him handing it out they should have brought a better candidate 4 years ago and spent the last 4 years looking for 1 for this year instead of whining about their loss.
I don’t understand this thinking.

”If you don’t like racist assholes to be recognized as some presidential achievement award winners, stop whining and vote in a better candidate”.

This right here is exactly where we are as a nation - we can’t just say “yeah that dude is a d-bag and probably doesn’t deserve recognition”.

No instead it’s always “but but but this other dude probably one time said something bad” and “too bad our team won” excuses.

This is why Republicans have lost the moral high ground and never really gave a shit about morals to begin with ... unless it concerns the “other” team, then cue the faux outrage.

oh lets talk about morals... except when it comes to womens rights?   the dems lose every time right there, except in their own mind,  the dems are as big of a joke as anything the repubs are doing.  remember when the R was being the blockade against obama?  remember the outrage then?  hypocrisy doesnt have a political affiliation.  The dems got screwed by their own party when their shot callers rigged the election,  and have spent the last 3 years trying to fix the results instead of focusing on fixing their own party.

personally I dont care for Rush,  but then again looking at that list of previous winners,  there are some on there that I dont feel represent America for shit either but there wasnt the outrage then.  Its all a fucking joke anyway,  that award should mean something, but its obviously just a big foam political middle finger for both sides.  Trump doesnt give a shit about Rush,  it was more about a big fat FU to your party,  and it worked.

You think there is a moral high ground in politics?  Its got to be one of the most slimy professions out there.

I'm sure we could find dirty on any one of these past winners...But heck, outside of Degeneres, I'm not seeing how any of these are a big fat FU to the other party (or other americans) as blatantly as Rush Limbaugh.

The leaving Pelosi hanging on a hand-shake and ripping-up of speeches is just the tip of the iceberg on how polarized Washington and the country is...

2020 is re-kindling memories of 68-73 for this 50 some year old...

thats the point,  you agree with their political views so when they have spoken up/out you dont get irritated at their positions.  get rid of Rush's slant and just look at what he did for talk radio and his "contribution" was just as significant as most on the list above.  (and I didnt listen to him much back then or at all in the last 20 years,  but I know that he was as big to talk radio in the last 25 years as anybody.)

No doubt that Limbaugh's contribution to talk radio has been huge. But there's also no doubt that Harvey Weinstein's contribution to film has also been huge. Doesn't mean I'd be OK with anyone giving him an award and ignoring that he, like Limbaugh, is also a piece of shit.

Speaking of the timeframe, you really need to watch Vietnam by Ken Burns.

and it goes back to a person could likely find shit on many of those listed above if they were so inclined to go digging.  for me I dont give a shit,  it was a political FU and nothing more, its not like that award has significant meaning to the citizens of the country or else those getting it would be open to more scrutiny than "the president thought he/she was deserving"

I don't think it's a political FU as much as it is an FU to civility, to decency, or as Lincoln put it, the better angels of our nature.
