ICE Immigration Raids to Start Sunday...
#11
I guess I don’t see it as complicated.

I think you have to decide on whether or not you want to
live in a world where you have rules that people follow or you get rid of the
rules you don’t want to enforce and have a free for all.  What I don’t think is a good option is to
pretend to have rules and then not enforce them or selectively enforce them.  That does no one any good.

I think allowing illegal immigrants is allowing there to be
a subclass of people, where these people are offered less protection than what
we consider the minimum standards for being human.  I think some people would make an argument
that them coming here illegally and being second class citizens is better than
what they came from, so we should let them stay in that purgatory.  I think that’s just having low
standards.  If it’s worth doing it’s worth
doing right.

I think there’s a clear difference between people who are
looking for amnesty and people who are looking to shortcut the immigration
process and move themselves in front of people who’ve already been waiting for
a long time.

I think the only compassionate thing is to try and increase
our capacity for processing people legally, and making quicker decisions on
whether or not we’ll accept them and integrate them AND to stop people from
trying to bypass the immigration process.
Ideally people should know before they leave whether or not they’ll be admitted
and then we just have to confirm it.  I
think in no circumstances should families be split up unless one of the parents
is a threat to other people.  It probably
costs a lot more to do this, but it’s a cost we need to bear.
