Jameis Winston suspended 3 games

I'll ask this question: how does the Tampa Bay franchise go on with this guy as the face of the team? In today's environment? The fastest growing segment of NFL demographics are females. Winston has done other immature and stupid shit, its obvious he's a dumbass. I mean, he's the villain now, both at home and on the road. Female reporters are going to ask him questions about this....and he basically blamed it on too much alcohol. Stupid answer.

Damien Woody called for Tampa to release him....at first, I thought that was really knee-jerk. But the more I thought about it, the more it started to make sense.
The big question is. How can they make the commitment. They have to decide if they pick up his 5th year option. That's going to be $20 million I've heard. Even before there were still questions about whether he would develop into a complete QB. He struggles with deep ball accuracy. He turns it over too much. Now he's going to miss 3 games against good opponents. Many locals here have called for the team to start over. Some want to give him one more chance. Fewer it seems are die hard Jameis loyalists. Some angry that he lied and denied for over a year. Then admitted and accepted. That to me was the 1st thing he did right. However I've heard apologizing was part of the deal for 3 games over 6. Never liked him never thought he would be a good face for any franchise.

He is a complete tool. It's way overdue for some type of consequence.

No doubt he is making it hard for them, but think about other factors that have driven the NFL and is forefront in the minds of most coaches, GMs, and owners - namely, that the league and success in it are driven by STAR QUARTERBACKS. Winston was rated by scouts as the best prospect since Andrew Luck, maybe since Payton Manning. For many in the NFL, the recipe for success has been to find the next HOF quarterback.

And one year ago, Winston was coming off a 10-6 record and his second 4,000 yard season. He's thrown 69 TD passes in 3 years...on the field, he is hardly Johnny Manziel, he has been productive. It's a lot to walk away from, especially in a league that has welcomed back Ray Lewis, Michael Vick, Adrian Peterson, and many other suspect characters.

Imagine the embarrassment for Tampa if they released Winston this week, and New England claimed him, paid him his modest rookie-contract salary (about $4M this year), and decided if he could take over for Brady.

they have to ride it out with him right now.   you cant just cut a first round QB that is playing decent.  his trade value will increase if they stick with him a bit and then put him on the market vs just cutting bait right now.  yes he is a piece of shit,  but he is a piece of shit with value and the bucs wouldnt be doing right by their fans to just cut him outright.

The Bucs picked up his 5th-year option on April 17 - teams have to decide before the 4th season begins. But it is only guaranteed if he gets injured (as we learned with Sharrif Floyd). I think they can cut him before the first day of the 2019 league year, sometime next March.

Yes you're correct. They can still get out of it. But if he plays this year and gets hurt and can't clear by March. Then they're screwed. That's what I'm hearing. I was mistaken listening to local radio this morning.  He thinks it a mistake to play him. Wants the team to release him.

The fans seem less then 50-50 on him now.  You are right that cutting him would be a mistake given that he's got some value. I'd say only 25% want to cut him now. Many do want to draft another one next year. He has changed his life since this happened. At least on outward appearances. He lost alot of trust though.

thats why I say roll with him... he is a sunk cost and the only way they lose is if he screws up again at which time they cut him immediately to give the appearance of being tough, and dont look back.

They could lose if as Jor-El says he gets hurt. That's been brought up as a reason not to risk it. $20 million reasons actually. Injury really in my mind is not so much a risk. He is physically dominating. I never liked the guy since FSU. Thought he was trouble. I don't think he's worth risking a new $100 million contract. This really screws the Bucs. They have to roll out Fitzpatrick against 3 tough teams. If they go 0-3 people will scream for Winston. If they are 2-1 and the sentiment stays negative on him. They might not risk getting him hurt. His numbers aren't bad. However with him out and Fitz playing well a few games last year. People have started taking notice of weakness in his game. 2 great WR's that he can't hit deep down field. One speedy Jackson who he can't utilize. Other a 6-5 target that barley broke 1000 yards last year.

they knew about his off the field shit when the picked up his 5th year option in may.  they were willing to risk it then and they still should be.  if he can rebound from this and put something decent on tape.... then they might have some trade value,  or a real franchise QB if he convinces them he has turned the corner both on and off the field.  cutting him or even trading him for peanuts right now would be a mistake IMO.
