Doesn't sound very likely he signs with the Vikings. Interesting that he's visiting three teams. Oakland, the team closest to where he grew up and played in college. Minnesota, where his brother plays. And Cleveland, the team who has the most cap space.
Some interesting quotes...
"So, yeah, I’m trying to be in a situation where I can play a big role and really contribute.’’
Now, Kendricks is weighing the prospect of competing for a title alongside his brother.
“That’s everybody’s goal in the league to win a championship, but to win one with him would be awesome,’’ he said.
Reading between the lines, he's looking for an opportunity to start and play more snaps than he did in Philly. If he can get that from any team that has interest, he'll likely sign there to prove he deserves another long-term deal on the open market.
The only thing I can see the Vikings offering that other teams can't is the chance to play with his brother and a solid shot to win the Super Bowl. They can't guarantee him a significant number of snaps with Barr and Kendricks locked into their starting roles. They also can't offer him much money, because it seems like the Vikings are intent on carrying over as much cap as possible to help them potentially keep all their pending FAs in 2019.
We'll see what wins out, but if another team can give him more playing time or significantly more money, we have no chance to sign him IMO.
It would be fun to add him and see another very good defensive player on the squad, but I just can't see it happening. We have bigger needs and Mychal can find more playing time & money elsewhere. If they signed him, I would wonder if team management was giving up on extending Barr.

If they end up signing Mychal, I don't think it will have anything to do with Barr's future. Look at our current depth chart right now... we have Barr, Kendricks, and Gedeon who have started games. After that, we have two special teams guys in Eric Wilson and Kentrell Brothers (suspended first 4 games), and nothing else... we're incredibly thin at LB at the moment.

True, but I just don't see Mychal Kendricks signing here to be our new Emanuel Lamur (depth and part-time coverage OLB).

Well....I would say it depends on how you want to structure the defense going forward. I agree that we're thin at LB and Kendricks would help a ton in that regard, but if you want to restructure this defense in a more traditional way, an argument can be made that you should maybe put more money into your 3T and less into your Sam backer.
Kendricks is a step down from Barr, no doubt, but if I had to choose one or the other, I'd rather have Richardson and Mychal vs. Barr and, say, Jaleel Johnson. And there is something appealing about going into the future with the 26 and 27 year old Brothers Kendricks side by side....
But it's enormously complicated. If the Vikings sign Kendricks thinking that he is a potential replacement for Barr, they have to do it in a way that doesn't tip off Barr. They need Barr 100% this year. And I don't know how they sign Kendricks without giving him some sort of indication that he's in their long term plans.

Often player headed into free agency play “above and beyond” past performances. Knowing their performance directly relates into their next contract. doesn’t seem right but it happens all the ttime.

Who says he'd be the backup? He could probably push for Gedeon's starting spot. The only issue with that (if he beats out Gedeon) is Mychal would in the same situation as he was in Philly. Playing less than 50% of the defensive snaps and it probably doesn't boost his value on the open market. I don't know if that would appeal to him or not... but it would certainly alleviate any concerns about our LB depth.
Apparently he makes his decision sometime today. I'm good either way, honestly.
so the question for me is... do we make a push for Kendricks as a fall back for next year if Barr plays hard to get...(ie demands to be paid like a 3-4 OLB and not the 4-3 guy that he plays)
I dont see the huge upside to Kendrick this year unless Barr were to get injured as they both play the same position, Kendrick could kick to Sam that Gedeon plays and it would likely be an upgrade, but is there a fit for the future?
Do we look at Barr as to expensive to keep and he becomes the sacrificial lamb that allows us to resign the rest of the FAs that we are looking at in the next 2 years?
Or is the interest simply seen as improving any position possible in a "all in" move to win one this year?
