I remember him giving a couple speeches but then he would revert back to old behavior. I like Baker Mayfield and don't want him to act like a tool. It's not a good look.

Apparently it started at the coin toss when the Kansas captains wouldn't shake his hand.  Then throw in the late hits, and he lost his cool.  These guys have to remember that they are ALWAYS on camera, even when it's a sh!t opponent like Kansas.

The kid is a loose cannon. Way too much Johnny football in this numbskull. Maybe not to the point of being out of the league in 2 yr.s but, to the point where your team gets sick of your ass and you're not worth the headache.

Wow, pretty solid apology without making excuses or the lame ass "if anyone was offended".  Just straight up owned it.

Quote:"I got caught up in a competitive game, a chippy game, but what I did
was unacceptable," Mayfield said. "I apologize. It's disrespectful. It's
not the example I want to set. It's not the legacy I want to leave at
OU. I truly do apologize. Thinking about the kids that are watching this
now, it's not something I want to do to the parents out there. I'm
sorry."

What's the other end of the conversation look like and what events are leading up to this?  If he's been taking cheap shots all day it's likely raised his emotion level.  I don't think condemning an action without context is prudent.  I don't think we need crotch grabs in celebration or even in sport,  but.... what set off this tirade and what was fueling this prolonged display?
Context does matter as a mitigating factor. Kansas started it by refusing to shake his hand at the coin flip. A little classless, but no real harm. And it came from nowhere. Totally unprovoked. Then come the late hits. That's more unacceptable than refusing to shake hands. So he shows Kansas that they suck at football and grabs his crotch to underline the point. Sure, it's not the best look, but let's not lose our minds here. He grabbed his own crotch, not someone else's.  It's a little vulgar, but not that big of a deal. If Barr had grabbed his crotch in response to Rodgers' chirping as he walked off the field, would we be going nuts over it or giving Barr an attaboy?
These are college kids playing a physical, emotional game. It gets  the better of them sometimes. Mayfield plants the OU flag at OSU (gasp!) or grabs his crotch (tsk tsk). He hit nobody. He injured nobody. He broke no laws. He failed no drug tests. And he has now apologized like he just got caught driving drunk in a school zone. So the verdict is in: Mayfield still needs to mature.  Again, gasp! Let's move on. There's nothing to see here.
