And the strongest grip ever fumbles it on the first carry

This isn't bashing, imo.

His current abilities at his age are showing though that an old running back, no matter how physically fit he is or how great his career has been, isn't worth more money than a young pair of legs ... especially a young pair than can block and catch.

You could see over the last few years some holes that AP didn't hit.  Process time from brain to action slows for even a split second and productions slides.
I do agree that generally RBs don't age well, but I think AD still has sufficient juice.  His main problem is that he was always extraordinarily athletic, and he leaned on it exclusively, and now that it's more ordinary than extraordinary he doesn't have the years of technique to make up for his age.  Other RBs have his similar athleticism, but they had to develop skills and techniques which transfer well into older players bodies.

Maybe I'm weird, but anyone who can bloody a 4 year old can go fuck themselves and the camel they rode in on...
There is always that unstated sentiment simmering below the surface for me.

I quietly applauded his limited success after that ordeal as a viking fan.  Knowing full well I was no longer rooting for the player.

The Vikes cut ties with him a few years too late.

I was in the camp that wanted to part with him as soon as he started flirting with Jerry Jones (beginning of 2014). The only benefit of keeping him a couple more years is that he probably would have played decently in 2015 and the whining here would have been deafening.

He is garbage against any team with a competent defense this year - 2 good games (49ers and Bucs) and 6 with 33 yards or less. He may get another 100-yard game against Jacksonville in a couple weeks and almost certainly against the lousy Giants a month later, but that's it.

Yeah, the Peterson fumble and safety were awesome, and the fact he nearly gained nothing all night was great too.  The only disappointment was that Blair made his kicks.  I mean, we were only cheering for ex-Vikings to fail, right?  At least AD pulled through, but Blair let us all down again.  What a bummer...

A fumble and 29 yards on 21 carries. Obviously a step slower.
There's no disagreement that he's not what he was in early seasons, but like all running backs he's always had games now and then that are a struggle:
'07: 14 carries for 3 yards vs SF
'08: 21 for 32 vs NO
'09: 13 for 18 vs AZ
'10: 14 for 26 vs NYG
'13: 13 for 28 vs NYG

his struggles have become the norm,  not the exception.

Teases?  WTF.  We got to watch and cheer for one of the greatest RBs ever in the game.  Most would put him up there with Jim Brown.  2012 wasn't a tease.  That was pure excitement.  Up until 2015, he was the best in the game.

As a person, I probably wouldn't care for most of the professional athletes.  Based on what they do, how they got there and the attitude of those following them, they are arrogant, cocky, often narcissistic and boorish.  But I don't make them my heroes, name myself on the internet after them, or get let down when they "betray" me.

At this point, I am glad he is gone.  He values himself much higher than what is reality.  He fumbles and he has always been somewhat of an idiot when asked to talk.  But I will always remember watching him in his prime.

It's not just declining physical ability; he has lost the ability to read lanes/holes and read blocks. Some of his film lately reminds me of Michael Bennett years back. 100 mph to the handoff, 100 mph into the backside of a blocker.

I don't see a guy making smart decisions struggling with a body that won't keep up. He's not finding lanes/holes/cutbacks and then slowly chugging through (more like, not through) them. He constantly runs into a swarm of bodies and falls down.

AD lost something else when he was suspended and returned. Remember that first training camp off of his return? ... the question of taking reps or not to knock the rust off? It seems like he has been stuck in that mode since - his skills may be declining, but his vision and feel for the game absolutely disappeared after the suspension.

he has spent his whole career working on his body..... and never his game,  always relying on his athleticism to cover up the warts he has from never working like a pro does,  on every aspect of their craft.
