who hires a comedian for a prestigious golf event like the Ryder Cup?  for fucks sake....

This is the tour organizers and the network that did this. They wanted a rowdy, pro-USA crowd....big 20 second video highlight moments they can blast all over social media. Players yelling and getting excited making putts. USA vs. Europe, blah blah blah. But what always happens with booze for hours, an environment that promotes being loud and rowdy and then SUPER close proximity to professional athletes with dipshit golf bros and 50 something year old public course wannabees gassed up? Everyone wants to go viral and the mob mentality starts.

Everything—EVERY. SINGLE. THING—is now pushed through a lens of conflict. What works in social media has been proven to work just as well in politics, journalism, sports and other modes of entertainment. Moral outrage is now the drug of choice.

They've had this rep forever outside the States, nothing new here. We're loud. Their saying is, 'You'll hear an American before you see them'.

I’m glad to see Europe had many supporters this weekend. Lol. Kathy Hochul was booed and heckled too. Hope she’s okay.

Rory's wife getting a bottle directed at her was egregious.
Watching the video, not sure she was target or Rory, but doesnt matter, totally assault and terrible.
It looked like other fans got on the idiot straight away, and I hope the asshole was arrested/charged.

Just 2 summers ago, US golfer (via Savannah/UGA) Brian Harman (all 5'7"/155 of him) found himself going into the weekend
with an unlikely 5 stroke lead at the Open Championship at Hoylake CC, England.

He was far from the gallery favorite.
On Saturday, he was heckled before nearly every shot.

He maintained the lead, and during Saturday's presser the UK press was asking him about his "contoversial hobby of hunting".

When he teed off Sunday in the last twosome, he was greeted with boos on the first tee.
A reporter asked him later what was said, Harman replied most of it was "unrepeatable".
Harman's eventual win by 5 shots was admirable.
This was not a "team event", which are always more "boisterous".

Golf gallery misbehavior is not uniquely American.
Lets hope the egregious behavior ends. Next stop in Limerick Ireland should be interesting.

A salient point here by the Zinger.

“Don’t throw stones from a glass house, lest ye be judged” or some thin’ akin to that. Wink

"PGA of America president Don Rea Jr., who initially compared vitriolic comments at the Ryder Cup to what could be heard at a youth soccer game, apologized Thursday in an email to the 30,000-plus golf professionals he was elected to serve.

Europe built a record lead after two days and held on for a 15-13 victory -- its sixth in the past eight Ryder Cups -- but the event was marred by a gallery that made it personal and profane.

"Let me begin with what we must own. While the competition was spirited -- especially with the U.S. team's rally on Sunday afternoon -- some fan behavior clearly crossed the line," read Rea's letter, which was obtained by The Associated Press, to PGA of America members. "It was disrespectful, inappropriate, and not representative of who we are as the PGA of America or as PGA of America golf professionals. We condemn that behavior unequivocally.

What makes our sport great is that we own our bogeys. We certainly own this one. Our CEO Derek Sprague has apologized on our behalf to Erica and Rory McIlroy and to everyone with Ryder Cup Europe. I would also like to personally apologize to them and all of you for not representing our association in the best light with some of my comments in the media during the event.

"While it wasn't my intention, some of my comments were seen in a negative light which reflects poorly on not only myself but also on the PGA of America and for that I truly apologize."

Before this thread I wouldn't have been able to tell you whether the Ryder Cup was car racing, hockey or housewares...
