The appendix thing would seem to be a fairly simple thing for Harry to declare. Pretty fixed recovery. fixed recovery time for appendix is 4 to 6 weeks for strenuous excersise depending ob persons physical shape and complications so time would sinc up

The phrasing from both Darrisaw and KOC lead me to believe they'll keep him out on a so-so natural turf in Chicago and play him in the home opener.

I read they replaced the turf at Soldier. Or maybe I dreamt that.

"Soldier Field, the aging home of the Bears, played host to five consecutive concerts over Labor Day weekend, culminating with System of a Down and Avenged Sevenfold performing both Sunday and Monday. The Lumineers were the main event Saturday, while My Chemical Romance headlined Friday and Oasis performed in front of 52,000 fans Thursday. In all, there were five concerts in five days with more than 250,000 music lovers in attendance.
According to WGN-TV, crews will spend this week transforming Soldier Field by laying sod ahead of the Sept. 8 Bears-Vikings opener. How will field conditions be come Monday night? Last year, before the Bears' preseason opener against the Bengals, which came the week after Soldier Field hosted back-to-back Metallica concerts, the field conditions weren't great."

Soldier Field turf conditions have always been among the worst in the league. I lived in Chicago for many years, and the saga of the field, who maintains it, cost, etc. has always been its own soap opera. Back in the day it had the worst first generation "AstroTurf" that stayed in place way past its time. When they went to natural turf, they have had just as many issues. Laying new sod has always been a problem as well because there is no time for the new turf to take hold and chunks of sod get torn up. Yep, a real mess as usual in Chicago. Tough place to be a kicker.

Freshly laid sod, and the seams that go with it, could actually be worse.

If it was about player safety, venues would be required to have playing surfaces to an acceptable level well before a game. Freshly laid said should never be acceptable.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I believe the Soldier Field turf is mostly handled by the City of Chicago, its always been mediocre at best. If Darrisaw starts its because his knee is truly 100% and they have full and utmost confidence. As I mentioned previously: at any other stadium, it might not be a second thought.
