Or they dropped off in production like CM. Purdy isnt a QB who can carry a team. Only if he is surrounded by high levels of talent. Hoping JJM isnt the same. He is in a very similar position to what Purdy was a couple years ago. Talent everywhere around him.

Pay him but, more on a shorter prove it deal. Whats he got left to prove? I dont think that realistic in the NFL today. He's been to a SB and cemented himself as at least as good as Love, Tua or Lawrence - who got their bags. The problem with Purdy being a good QB in SF's system...is that system is now reset when Purdy gets paid. He played in 2024 on his rookie contract of roughly $1M. The 49ers could put a pretty good team around him at that price. Can they put a good enough team around Purdy at $50M? I have my doubts.
So Purdy is still under contract for 2025. They could franchise him in 2026. He had a down year in 2024, so nows as good a time as any to try and get him to sign a lower cost contract, but I wouldn't overcommit to him. One of the downsides of his previous contracts is that it probably increases his desperation for signing a bigger multimillion dollar contract.
I also think that the 49ers are probably one of the few teams that could be successful at coaching up more QBs than say other teams, so if he does find his way onto another team, they probably aren't QB-less for a decade.

No, the surround will obviously be lesser. So find a cheap QB who can do what Purdy does for less money so you can keep the rest of the roster solid. Problem solved! Except now we have another problem.

Could be better/more consistent. Tua? At least Purdy knows the current date. It isn't a question of getting paid, he should get paid. But I think the point above, a shorter deal makes sense. I wouldn't want my team hitched to him long term for a huge salary. But I would pay him enough to make him happy for the next couple of years while looking for a tier 1 guy.

We'll have to agree to disagree. This gets back to why should he settle for less guaranteed? Or less term than those 3? He's achieved more than any of them. I dont think thats a realistic bargaining position for the 49'er front office to take, at least in this era of the NFL for a starting QB.

Purdy is 27-15 as a starter, including playoffs. An overtime loss away from a ring. San Fran was decimated with injuries last season. Why would Purdy's camp take anything less than what the market rate is for QBs? This is part of why I started this thread, the 49ers really don't have a choice. And why would he take less years on a contract? He's not going to do anything like that....at least in my opinion.
Like I said, I'm not a big Brock Purdy guy, but he's not going to take some kind of lesser-than contract because we fans might think he's a limited QB. If Jordan Love and Tua can break the bank, Brock Purdy sure as hell is going to. Good story here on why he'll get paid eventually at $50+ mill per: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agent...ock-purdy/ "The first problem the 49ers are going to have is getting Purdy's camp to understand why Purdy should be treated worse than an inexperienced Jimmy Garoppolo since Purdy has done a lot more than Garoppolo ever did when he signed his contract. Garoppolo briefly became the league's highest-paid player in 2018 after just a handful of good starts, following his 2017 midseason trade from the New England Patriots several months earlier. Purdy is the best quarterback Shanahan has had during the eight seasons he has been the 49ers' head coach. Since becoming San Francisco's starting quarterback in 2022 during the latter part of his rookie season, Purdy has the NFL's best passer rating at 106.2 as well as a league-leading 9.0 yards per pass attempt and 13.3 yards per completion (minimum of 500 pass attempts for these categories). Purdy was an NFL MVP finalist in 2023 after completing 69.4% of his passes for a 49ers franchise-record 4,280 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions to post an NFL-leading 113.0 passer rating." "The 49ers should probably take Super Bowl XXXVII-winning head coach Jon Gruden's words about the quarterback situation to heart during the negotiations but probably won't. "He's covered their ass man. They gave up three first-round draft choices to get a guy (Trey Lance) they got rid of. ... And this guy's (Purdy) the last pick of the draft. He's taken you to the Super Bowl. He's taken you to the brink," Gruden said in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX. "He deserves to get paid and I'll just leave it at that."

I think the only hand wringing about Purdy is among fans. I doubt the 49ers have even once considered not paying him.
