Kwesi and KOC avoided getting royally scammed by Cousins .
Atlanta gambled on a 36 year old coming off blown Achilles surgery at 50 mil a year.
In a parallel universe , had Cousins been resigned, this exact same argument could have occurred in Minneapolis with calls of Cousins to be replaced by JJM.

I advocated for Cousins before we saw the terms of the contract. Glad I’m not GM. That could have exploded in our face.

I did, too, and it's not exactly apples to oranges: Atlanta's HC is new this year, Kirko had to learn the playbook and his teammates' tendencies while still healing, and that was a lot to take into this season.
I think it'd have been an easier recovery on his familiar team with his familiar (and incredible) weapons/playbook...but, as he obviously didn't trust his leg early on, how things would have gone will never be known.
Wishing a great season for the team, Especially Mundt and Kwenkeu!

He's younger and more athletic (with a worrisome injury history, despite his youth), but is he a leader at the NFL level? Is that what the offense really lacks?
I think the new head coach, the QB returning from injury, and some underwhelming performances overall in that offense have been a rough combination...and that throwing a rookie into it could expose those other problems pretty brutally.
Cousins is having a rough stretch, no argument, but that team doesn't look "together" to me in general.
Well, they got to 6-3 and everyone is like, 'Kirk is back! Finally healed up and looking good'......then they've gone 0-4 since then and Cousins hasn't thrown a TD in that stretch, but thrown 8 INTs. So the trend is not good. Its probably too early and harsh to say he's washed, but now is the time for him to turn it on and get the Falcons in the playoffs: its a big boy contract, time for some big boy wins.

I figured last week was when the turbo boost was going to kick in for Kirko.
I think he's on a short leash now. I agree the next week or two will tell the tale.
I would be doubling-down on the playbook if I was Penix.

Atlanta has too much tied up in Cousins. They won't start Penix until they are eliminated from playoff contention... which could be sooner, rather than later.

I'd be very surprised if anyone trades for him and that monster contract. I believe Cousins may be reaching the end.

Kirk is no longer our problem; he's Atlanta's problem. Whew!
I doubt another team will take on Atlanta's problem, just like no team was willing to take on Denver's problem when they signed Russell Wilson to a ridiculous contract. Denver took their medicine with a huge dead cap when they cut Wilson and now they are back to building a team with a young QB. Atlanta will likely have to do the same with Cousins and Penix. Wilson signed a vet minimum contract with Pittsburgh, still getting paid by Denver, so maybe Atlanta cuts Kirk and he follows in Wilson's footsteps.

Chatter is:
Kirko is still injured and they just arent saying so publicly.
Would Penix given them the best chance to win now???
Their remaining schedule is ridiculously easy (in NFL standards);
Giants
Commanders
Panthers

If Cousins were to be traded, he’d cost the new team $27.5M in year one, and $45M in year 2 and 3 which would average out to like $39M a year and he could be cut after any of those seasons without dead cap.
That’s not exactly a monster deal in this day and age.
You could easily trade a 3rd for him as a one year rental and not feel bad about it at all and if things blossomed he would be a reasonable cap hit.
I think a lot of it comes down to whether you think his ankle will look better with another offseason in the book and if you think your OC/WRs can help him get the ball out quickly.
