yeah I have to agree, Cousins played much better in his championship game.
Penix will be a guy to take a hard pass on. You know, the guy you wanted to start his rookie year in the NFL, lol.

sorry, i didn’t know a full film breakdown was required for a statement of opinion
What you're missing is it gets in the way of their narrative that Cousins sucks. It gets hard to follow but the excuse wagon is now here for how Penix pissed down his leg last night.

I think he's more getting at that one game makes someone not "the guy" is pretty myopic. Not that we were expecting a full scouting report. Name QB who never had a bad game. Full disclosure don't care for either guy.
I dont think I’m being myopic at all. I see tons of criticism on this board of Kirk because he “pads meaningless stats in the regular season” but “ falters when the lights shine brightest.”
I think it’s a fair point to bring up that while both Penix and JJM have had great regular season games and careers, neither is rising to the occasion and taking over a game where there’s a championship on the line.
Isnt that something you want a franchise championship QB to exhibit?
This.

Right, because there's that lengthy list of current franchise QBs who rose to the occasion during a national championship game. One further how about QBs in the last 25 years who rose to the occasion playing in the natty who won a SB.
If judging a player off one game over several seasons worth of tape, and you know, the scouting process isn't myopic, I don't know what is.
I'm a Michigan fan, live in Michigan, and have watched every game. JJ has been a bit of an enigma. He didn't play more than 3 quarters of a game until Nov. (all blowouts against pretty weak teams). Against Purdue he turned up with 335 yds. passing. After that...60 against Penn State, 141 against Maryland, 148 against Ohio State, 147 against Iowa, 221 against Alabama, 140 against Washington. He's made 30 throws in a game only 3 times this year.
That's not all an indictment on JJ because of the run oriented scheme, but behind some of those mediocre numbers are some glaring weaknesses. I don't like his deep ball accuracy. His intermediate misses are usually high throws, which in the NFL turn into tipped balls off receivers hands. He has a rocket arm, but not sure he throws a real catchable ball. He's a great competitor, says all the right things, but might need to mature a bit into being taken seriously. He could definitely use either another year in school or a year on an NFL sideline and hope he gets some mechanics worked out.
GO BLUE... NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!!
Yeah baby!!
Neither QB was particularly accurate but JJ clearly has a bigger arm and more mobility. If he declares the combine will be important for him. Could be a riser.
Penix- man. He stunk out the joint. Innaccurate and dinged up and they had no run game to take some of the heat off. It’s only one game like many have said but that’ll leave a bad taste in the mouth. If he winds up being a bust for whatever reason every armchair GM in the country who watched the game last night is gonna say, “I knew it!”

Can we say out loud that the Pac-12 had very questionable defenses top to bottom? Penix had never seen a defense like Michigan that will disguise looks, consistently create pressure, and were very stout against the run. Penix was able to drop back and play pitch and catch most of the year. After what I saw last night, it looks as though it's a classic case of inflated numbers.

Outside of the Big 10, SEC, and the occasional ACC team...nobody plays defense in college football.

Classic case of the media wanting to crown Penix's ass. Washington has never seen a D like Michigan's and a run game that just bullies you (for over 300 yards). And Michigan tackles. Without Michigan's classic 3rd quarter letdown they seem to do in almost every game, it would have been more lopsided.
I don't think last night's game is going to change their stocks much. Both QBs have sort of "artificially" risen to the top half of the 1st round due to mock drafts and all the QB-needy teams in the top 10.
Did the NFL actually have them that high? Not likely. So all you guys who were worried 6 QBs were going to go in the top 6 can now rest easy.

Agreed. This happens every year. The year QB Jake Fromm came out in 2020, some mock's had him a top 20 pick, lmao. NFL GMs placed him as a 5th rounder.
