And sometimes that isn't even enough, as the drafters of Wilson, Trub, Fields, Wentz, Darnold, Lance, Rosen, etc, etc can attest. I would assume they did their due diligence. Sometimes ya just gotta get lucky.
Absolutely but the odds need to be in your favor. At some point, you gotta take a shot

Takes a good QB coach more than anything, I feel like even with all these staffs with more specialty coaches it is becoming a lost art.
I forget the specifics but Dabol and an ex-nfl QB worked with Jared Allen up in Buffalo and really turned his game around.
The Jets were/are a terrible fit for Wilson (not saying he would make it anywhere) and remember his first QB coach got hit by a car and died a few months into his tenure...ouch. I think Wilson might have had a shot sitting behind Rodgers for a year but that is a big IF that isn't going to happen.
Death, taxes, and Vikings fans knowing we need a new QB but being terrified to take one.
QBs bust at the same rate as any other position. It just gets way more scrutiny.
Zach Wilson sucks it seems, but the Jets would be SB contenders rn if Rodgers hadn’t gotten hurt. Lance apparently sucked too and the Niners are undefeated. Whiffing on a QB isn’t a death knell. Hitting on a QB is a huge boon.

Yep and that is why for years I just wanted us under Spelly to take more shots at QB and I was (and still am) a Spelly supporter. I still think he ends up GM somewhere soon.

On a side note, we as a team are horrible.
? Ok. So now that the Vikings are 0-3, every thread needs a random reminder of that fact regardless of topic? The topic is Zach Wilson.
Yep Zack sucks and so do we. I guess we are already in deflection mode
Or meme mode
LMAO they are gifs, not memes!
Both can be true at the same time, the Vikings and Zach Wilson can be horrible

We seem to be whiffing on almost all our draft picks, so yeah, may as well throw those safety, corner, and linemen picks at the QB position.
As an aside, I thought Wilson was going to be one of top quarterbacks coming out. Feels good to have admitted that.

yes its luck, but as a GM would you rather have a top 5 shot at the lottery in each round, or somewhere in the late teens to early 20s each round? in neither scenario are you a legit SB contender the previous year, so why do we always think a middling season is a success when in reality nobody will remember in 2 years about another meaningless division title, but people always remember those top draft picks years after they either boom or bust. If you were the Vikings GM right now, and you know that your job is safe for another year or two, are you really going to be focusing on turning 0-3 into 8 or 9 wins, or would you be looking at the draft for next year and be thinking about how many lottery tickets you need to try and turn this thing around? Because you are in year 2 of what was going to take at least 3 ( now likely 4) years to turn around, how many years will they give you without getting the ship righted with a real outlook for the future? ( trotting half assed free agents and aging immobile QBs out there isnt going to be the answer )
at least a top tier QB, and could still add other top players by moving Cousins, and Hunter in exchange for draft picks, adding relatively cheap and younger talent now give optimism, I dont know to many fans that look at our roster right now and are honestly optimistic for this year, and even next year the way things are looking.
even if we cant get the #1 pick, I would think getting one of the next 1 or 2 QBs off the board, as well as adding a DT and C in the first 45 picks would give reason for optimism for 25, and a reason to tune in for 24, especially when you think about the FA coin that we will have available to try and add some mid 20s top talents.
I know what I'm rooting for!!!!!!!!!

I notice you left Manziel off that list.

........but could we be horrible together? Wilson for Cousins plus their 3rd & 4th? If we're horrible together and could oh I don't know...win 1 game against the Packers.............
