I totally see the value of picking up our QBOTF this year so that he can sit and marinate behind Kirk, but man, we REALLY need so much help all over this team. We went out and hired a premier D coordinator and for the life of me I cannot understand why he’d want to sign on if we aren’t going to be able to draft a couple D players high in this draft. I know we’ve got some guys coming back from injury and I really like Byron Murphy, but we need to draft D. Also, I don’t think enough can be said about how much we need somebody who will be able to provide some juice alongside JJ. I like Jordan Addison, personally.

Doesn't the fact that the Vikings' defense ranked 31st in the league raise any concerns? I can't see the organization passing up on quality defensive players. Even if they trade up and draft a QOTF and score lots of points, the defense if not fixed will just give up more. Not going to win very many games with a rookie quarterback and a horrid defense.
Trade down, get 2 second round picks
Trade Kirk, get Lance and 2 third round picks
Trade Cook for a 5th
Trade Z for a 5th
5 picks plus Lance and TJ from the first 3 rounds of the draft. Draft CB, LB, EDGE, DT, WR.
Throw in the health of Booth and Cine, that is 7 young potential studs to see the field while you see if Lance is the guy.
If he's not, we will have a high pick and have ammo to deal up to get Caleb Williams.
If he is, then you have a QBOTF and all of your 24' picks

I agree. You have Cousins for this year and his $28.5 million dead cap next year if we decide to let him go. I would rather find a way to keep him on an extension for 24 and 25 while we work on developing a QB. Even if we stay at 23 and take the best QB still on the board, the bust factor with the 4th or 5th QB taken in any draft is huge. Jordan Love was taken 26th overall and I'm still not convinced he isn't a bust after sitting behind Rodgers for 3 years. He was the 4th QB taken in Round 1 but the dropoff in talent from Burrow, Tua, and Herbert is miles apart IMO. We will need to mortgage the future to move up to Houston or Arizona's pick. Flores is great, but there is only so much he can do with College Free Agents to fix all the issues on defense since we won't have any draft capital for the next 2-3 years. There is a very real chance that Hooker could fall completely out of the 1st Round. If that happens, then finding a way to get into the Second round on a QB that could be 2 or more years away from being a solid starter makes more sense.
Putting this yrs. group of QBs in any kind of historical perspective, and all I can come up with is a remarkable lack of a front runner, where even the supposed #1 QB is looked at with skepticism in terms of his slight build and long term durability. From there I see Mitch Trubisky, Jameis Winston, (minus the crabs), Marcus Mariota type players. I'm not mortgaging the future on this crop. Hard stop.

This is Madden type stuff but for some reason I don’t hate this plan nearly as much as I feel like I should haha. Nice work, would be wild if they went in this direction.
I’m not a big believer in trading up a lot to get a QB. I think the evidence is pretty clear that
there’s way too many guys that people are certain are can’t miss prospects and
they end up busting. Also a high
percentage of the elite QBs in recent history weren’t drafted at the very top
of the draft. I’m more a believer in
drafting higher quantities of QBs as way to raise your odds of hitting on one. I think teams should be drafting a QB when
they have the opportunity to draft a guy they believe has sufficient potential
to be elite. I think you should be
drafting a QB roughly every other year on average until you get an elite QB,
but there’s always draft variation, in that sometimes when you need a QB, there’s
none available, and sometimes the perfect guy falls and you don’t need them so
you pass on them, only to regret it later.
I think it’s more important that the organization focuses on
becoming a QB factory, where everything is setup to maximize the potential of
the QBs. Far too often you draft a good QB
into a shitty situation and they bust. I
think everything else is secondary. Always
have good OLine and good receiving targets.
Maintain coaching consistency on the offensive side.
I think the most I would trade is the original first, one
extra first and a third. That feels like
a lot to me, but we’re always drafting from the middle of the draft and to get
an elite QB from here, you’re pretty much hoping that the 4th best
QB you’re drafting was missed by all the other teams. Maybe I would have different opinions if we
sucked and could realistically trade up to #1 and get an Andrew Luck.
The QB class of 2021 are 2 years into it and Lawrence and maybe Fields look the part, the rest don't.
I hope they pass on drafting a QB and instead trade for Lance.

Well, Lawrence does. But so far anyway Fields is just a running QB.

Lance is a bust. I'd rather take a 3-4th rounder QB then a trade for Lance whom I suspect wouldn't be cheap if the 49ers weren't convinced he was a bust.
