sorry DC... the way this team has won this year if the definition of living on the edge. the Vikes have had many early leads that they lose because the O goes flat and the D starts breaking a bit... it taking a late game offensive drive or a defensive big play or turnover to preserve the wins is textbook living on the edge, i think its this style that has so many fans on the fence as far as what we actually have for a team, we know we have a good team, you have to be good to keep winning in this fashion, but the fact that we really havent just dominated any team yet this year keeps most from seeing anything better than a "good" team at this time.
even our Zimmer led teams had a game here or there where you werent biting your nails all game long, and Zimmer was the poster child for going conservative to soon and seeing leads evaporate.
I think as a player, it’s essential to have confidence in
yourself that no matter what has happened up until this point, you can put
together a handful of plays in a row and win the game. I think all the best teams end up with games
in their season where things look a little hairy and they do just enough to
win, and that midlevel teams don’t quite pull out the wins. Most games come down to the last series or
two, especially when the teams are relatively close, so it’s important to play
those all important plays with confidence.
That said, if you’re trying to be a good team, you’re trying to be
consistently better than the other team to the point where you can predictably
and reliably get wins most of the time.
I think it’s pretty clear that the Vikings have overachieved their
record, but I have trouble looking backwards and not seeing a team that has a winning
record. We’ve been the better team in
most of our games, we just haven’t been as consistently good as most of us
would like to have as a predictor of a team that can go far in the playoffs.

But here's the thing... what's wrong with being happy we have a "good" team right now? Are fan expectations that high we aren't happy with a good team? Especially one that wasn't "good" the last couple years under a different HC?
I'm surprised most of us here aren't more ecstatic about this 6-1 start. Yes, we had some talent on this team, but with a whole new offense and defense led by a rookie HC... this is the dream scenario being 6-1 at this point and it seems like everyone is being Debbie downer about it. Like I would have been fine with 7-8 wins given where I thought we had roster weaknesses and chalk up this first season to building culture and figuring out how to rebuild this roster under KOC's vision... but hot damn we are almost to that many wins and we aren't even half way thru the season!
For all the nitpicking about this or that, I'm sure the team we have seen the first 7 weeks will be different than the one we see the last 7 weeks. We've already seen the run defense, tighten up and a lot more turnovers on defense the past couple weeks. Something we didn't see often in the first month of the season. Same for the offense... Dalvin is being more productive, we're getting others besides Jefferson involved and it's starting to look good. I see a team that is good, is improving as the season rolls along, and is getting REAL confident... Gonna be fun to see how far they can take this thing in Year 1 under O'Connell.

I dont think anybody is unhappy with where the team is at right now, I am disappointed in a few individuals performances to date, but as a whole I would say the fanbase is happy to be at 6-1. Its just that we have all been here before and have seen the likely soul crushing outcome, we all want to see them win and keep winning, but eventually we would like to see a team that is finally able to bring home a lombardi and I think for me its likely a self preservation mechanism to take these wins with tempered enthusiasm and to focus more on the ways I would like to see them improve ( in order to maybe be able to compete for that lombardi) than to sit back and talk about how great another stumbling win was. yes they all count the same... no style points... etc etc etc, I am just past the rah rah stage as a fan when I can see issues that likely will need to get cleaned up in order for this 6-1 start to actually end up meaning something. We've had lots of years of great starts, to many for me to get overly excited about when for me its just another season, unless they are the ones holding the hardware at the end of the season.
I dont expect everyone to have a guarded view of the teams success this year, but as a long time fan I would expect other long time fans to be understanding why some arent viewing this as anything exceptional or reason to dream it could be more as of yet? I still get stupid excited as the games draw closer each week, I still DVR the games so I can rewatch every play for things that most fans just dont even care about, I still jump on the fan sites multiple times a day for news relating to my favorite team... but I am just not ready or able to get stupid excited for what I still see as a flawed product, I envy those that can, I remember that level of passion, but years of devastating under performing defeats snatched out of our hands just leaves my head telling my heart... not yet!
