Anybody else wonder if Belicheat sent that text to Flores on purpose? Cause trouble for a franchise that has gotten a little better the last couple of years. His own team is behind the Bills now, so make it more difficult for the 3rd place team to improve.
Absolutely no way.  I am guessing Belichick is extremely pissed for being drawn into this.  You think he wants to face all the questions he is now facing.  Besides, he will be deposed -- what is he going to say during his deposition -- he lied to get a competitive advantage over the Dolphins?
Eh, I wouldn’t put it past him. So, he has to go in and answer some questions. Plays dumb a little, says he just heard and sent the wrong text.
He’s done shady stuff in the past.

Just so I understand your reasoning, Belichick basically outs the NY Giants for having a scam interview with Flores in order to get a competitive advantage over the Miami Dolphins?  It seems to me that if Belichick wanted to harm the Dolphins, he could have done so in a more direct manner.

In 2019 the Dolphins were 3-11 and were playing the Bengals who were 2-12, the loser of that game was going to be in line for the #1 pick and Joe Burrow.  If you were the owner, do you not think you would not have had a talk with your coach about the implications of that game?  This is not about losing games or shaving points for the purpose of any kind of betting, it was for two meaningless games for a chance to change the direction of the franchise.  Flores went all out to win in OT against the Bengals in OT, the Bengals are in the Super Bowl and the Dolphins are in this mess, so you tell me if you would not have done the same thing.

Flores is a first class jerk who consistently verbally abused people in the Dolphins organization including his young QB.  He couldn't get a job, because no other organization who did their due diligence would hire him and so now he is trying to cash in and be some kind of martyr.
Strange logic here.  How dare a guy who is paid to win, want to win and try to win.
But if true, he was NOT paid to win.  He was told NOT to win so they could draft the QB they want.  A long term gain for a short term loss.  Didn't affect anything except draft order.  This happens ALL THE TIME in sports.   Just like when the Dolphins traded away all of their good players, its called a rebuild for a reason.
Again, some of you don’t understand the implications of Flores’ claim.

Telling him to lose for a better draft pick isn’t an issue. That stuff no doubt happens. It isn’t against the rules or illegal. Against the spirit of the game, sure. You can argue back and forth about that all day.

Offering to pay him to lose, which is the claim here, is a much different scenario because it is a federal crime to bribe a party to impact the outcome of a sporting event.

I think most of us that are saying who cares aren't looking at it from a legal angle,  because its an NFL owner/billionaire so nothing will come of it that way.

From a fans perspective and the "integrity" of the game perspective he really didn't ask for  anything that wasn't already happening with other teams....so to me its a who cares thing.   I just dont see anything here but sour grapes.
Flores can claim the high ground,   but somebody should ask him if this would have been brought to light if he hadn't been fired,   or why he didn't bring it to Goodell when it happened.  I also want to know where is the systemic racism he claims when he himself was a HC,  how did he get interviews and hired?  Was it just because he was back and filled a quota or was he the best qualified for the job?

Really interesting take from Jason Whitlock who doesn't have anything good to say about Flores and calls the entire lawsuit a sham.

If Belichick doesn’t accidentally text Flores about the other “Brian” getting the job, then Flores has no case against the Giants which means he doesn’t file a lawsuit and also disclose the Dolphins we’re trying to pay him to lose.
It’s an indirect way, or and Oops, to get Flores pissed and start some shit.

So, you are saying Belichick knew that Ross offered Flores money to throw games and that if he sent those misdirected text related to the Giants job that would trigger Flores to file a lawsuit which would include the Dolphins.  Also, damn lucky that both Daboll and Flores share the same first name to give Belichick cover for his sinister plan.  (Of course, if Belichick knew about the tanking offer as you suggest, after Ross fired Flores, Belichick could have suggested to Flores that he just go public with the $$ for losses scheme or Belichick could have had someone else just leak it to the press.  Simply leaking it to the press seems like a safer route -- press would have run with it and Belichick would not have his name in a lawsuit with a likely deposition and increased press scrutiny.)

I think the better Belichick angle here is that he actively promoted Brian Daboll to become coach of the Giants so Daboll would leave the Patriots' in-division rival, the Bills.  But, hey, maybe he was killing two birds with one stone -- of course, the stone needed to ricochet off a few objects and get a lucky bounce or two to kill the second bird.

You’ve put a lot of thought into debunking something that was just thrown out there as a “what if”.

I guess, you win.

I try not to buy into the concept that there are winners and losers when there is a lively debate of ideas.  Most exchange of ideas should have value for all participants if only to strengthen our ability to evaluate ideas.

It wasn’t lively, you were just telling me I’m wrong.
