I liked the cranky in him too Savvie - but that was when they were winning and it fit so well with his D credentials and pedigree.

D guys have to be cranky!

Not much more to be said really. Fans all over this board have pretty much nailed it.

Looking back:
Snakebit as hell, Diggs forcing a trade, Dont think Zimm ever wanted KC here or spending big $$ on a QB, churning through OC's like candy, probably too loyal to vets and yet he's tossed players under the bus publicly, the vaccine schism, some of the players venting snark in the media? Old and worn schemes, poor game management...

I just dont think Eagan is a happy place, maybe hasn't been for a while now.

And then....Every once an a while they pull out an upset and play hard for Zimmer and themselves.

Go figure (shrug).

This truly does feel like the beginning of the end of the Mike Zimmer era in MN. I really wanted Mike to win the big one here too.

No they haven't.

Looking back:
Snakebit as hell,
Bud Grant lost 4 SB's.  Does it get more snake-bit?  &  He's on Mt Vikemore.

 Diggs forcing a trade,
I loved Diggs.  He's not bigger than the team.

Dont think Zimm ever wanted KC
And he seemed to have man- love  for Teddy.  (I didn't, but wtf cares?)
Point is....what's the point?  KC has been solid.
He couldn't wait to get rid of Case....inexplicably (imo)....but he's a "D" guy....

here or spending big $$ on a QB, churning through OC's like candy,
Howzit Zim's fault OC's got promoted to other teams?  (Schurmer/Stef)  Or got fired/left? (Norv/De-Flip)
This board had a near-orgasmic response to Kubes, Sr.  Remember?

 probably too loyal to vets
Barr (his 1st draft choice, I think)  Smith.  Who else?

and yet he's tossed players under the bus publicly
Who?

 the vaccine schism
He was pro-vax.  What could possibly be schismatic about that?  (Wink

some of the players venting snark in the media?
Who?  Diggs and maybe now Thielen?  Run your pansy routes and stfu.
Ya'll are lucky Rick didn't draft DK-Met (went with ISJ, lol)) who would've made you squat in a corner.

Old and worn schemes, poor game management...
I just dont think Eagan is a happy place, maybe hasn't been for a while now.
WTF cares?
AND, at 3-4, it shouldn't be a happy place.  So we agree on that?

And then....Every once an a while they pull out an upset and play hard for Zimmer and themselves.
Go figure (shrug).
That's just it.  They are playing hard.  Prolly for their own NFL lives...but I'm not convinced of a schism/mutiny...or anything close.
3-4 sucks, I agree.  I also agree our O is too predictable.
We've also been in EVERY game, this year.

I sit in Jowja, home of the #1 team in college football.
How #1?
Stifling....STIFLING defense...and (per usual, Ga grows RB's like peaches/cotton/pecans)  a strong running game.
Howz about that?  D & running game leading the collegiate ranks.
Let's face it....Stetson Bennett IV  couldn't win a state championship, let alone a national championship.

Zimmer's record on D ranks with Vikes:

2015:  5
2016:  6
2017:  1
2018:  9
2019:  5
2020:  29
2021:  6   thus far.....  https://www.pro-football-reference.com/y...21/opp.htm

Throw out 2020...and Zim has given you an average top 5 defense.

Zimmer's run offense on O with Vikes:

2015:  4
2016:  32
2017:  10
2018:  30
2019:  6
2020:  5
2021:  10

The two outlier years included:  14 ranked run offense averaged.
Throw out 32 and 30....ranked 7th over Zim's career.

If we're following Jowja's template....ZIM's ON THE CUTTING EDGE OF THE FOOTBALL GREATNESS FORMULA!!!

You guys wanna bail on Zim when he's 3-4/competitive?
Go right ahead.

Pardon me if some of us  will give him a bit of a longer leash.

A meme saying "people weren't so f*cking stupid"  using the image of a guy who smoked himself to death.  OK...  :p

-If this team's D is ranked 6 this year, clearly stats can be twisted to tell any story you like, because 4 out of 7 times this D keeps stepping on their own dicks when things get tight.
-How's it Zim's fault he hired a turd like Flip? Kinda his job to not hire turds or guys you can't work with.
-His loyalty to vets go beyond who's here. Remember the old DB's he brought back from the trash heap in the past like Newman and I think some old guy from Cincy, now Peterson, who's his latest fixer upper.
-Who has he thrown under the bus? I can think of a half dozen kickers. One who seemed just fine in Vegas after the voodoo doll treatment from Zim. It's like Zim has high school flashbacks of stuffing kids in their lockers after rasslin practice.
-While appreciate the need for a stifflin defense, Zim's best teams couldn't have hung with the likes of the offensive circus of the Rams or Chiefs  in '19, '20. He ignores that side of the ball until it bites him in the ass.

7 years of some good, but not great, and mostly team play below expectations. How many NFL coaches get a longer leash?

All that would be great if he was our DC,  unfortunately he is the HC where his credentials aren't nearly as impressive.

Living in a time where the health effects of tobacco use weren't widely known,  hell they were often lauded as cures or treatments for some ailments,  and he still lived into his 70s which IMO is a good run.

First time in memory I am to the point that I really don't care.

A lot of upheaval in my life, my wife died recently, getting ready to retire.

This team is so frustrating it's like...eh!!

My condolence sent also.  A losing Viking team isn't the biggest concern in life, as you well know.  Very sorry, about your wife.
