Kyle Sloter...What You Need To Know

There's the answer to the "Teddy vs. Sam" debate.  If Sam doesn't "prove it" this year, he's gone... and it'll be a decision of "Teddy vs. Sloter".  Maybe...
Choices are good...Vikings are just giving themselves as many options as possible with so many unknowns.

Hes on the practice squad PF. Yea, he can be signed off our PS at any time. I was reading he could make an extra $7,000 per week (active roster minimum) on a 53.

He took our offer because it was financially too good to pass up. He's in line to make even more if he's called up. If he's then waived and claimed, he'll stay on a 53... if not, he can choose the best practice squad offer again...

I bet we try and get him up to speed a.s.a.p (3rd QB "up to speed") and move him up. In the mean time, we've kept a roster spot open for other positions in the short term until he gets up to speed. We've also avoided the Week 1 contract guarentee if he's moved up next week.

correct. also teddy is still an unknown in terms of ability to play football at full speed.  as to the financials, hopefully the good faith we showed with our PS offer would have garnered some first refusal authourity if someone tries to poach

i found this on another board, from a Denver Fan

"Probably one of the feel good stories of the year- Bronco fan here just signed up to give you guys clue. Now Elway has lost his mind - Our QB lineup is an oft - injured 7th rounder who lead us out of the playoffs last yr - a bust of a QB Brock who 2 teams PAID to leave & a 6'6" Pirate wanna be who can't seem to "get the playbook" So these guys beat out the #1 2017 Preseason QB who could be your future QB in a couple of years. Also 3 other teams were bidding on him today. Yet MN paid him 330K to be on the PS. Nice job.
As brief as I can possibly put it, Sloter originally committed to play quarterback at Southern Mississippi out of high school. He was on track to start in his second year but the coach who recruited him there was let go. The new coach at Southern Miss installed a new system, and brought in a different quarterback.
Sloter was moved to wide receiver, where he earned his playing time and eventually, they pulled his scholarship. He was able to transfer to Northern Colorado (Greeley) and was recruited to play quarterback. Unfortunately, because of a hiccup in his credits transferring schools, Sloter was spending the majority of his weekdays catching up on getting the credits he needed to be eligible.
Because of that, Sloter was missing practices while trying to compete for a starting quarterback job, and that formula wasn’t a successful one. He started the season as UNC’s backup quarterback in what was his final shot at any collegiate playing time. He was even prepared to come in and play wide receiver if necessary.
As fate would have it, the team’s starting quarterback went down with an injury, and Sloter stepped in.
He would not be replaced."

As much as I liked Heinicke, and I still think he's got a future in the league, Kyle Sloter is a developmental prototype. His arm and measurables are top notch. He's Colin Kaepernick (hopefully without the distractions): Similar size, speed, arm, intelligence. This is a guy you can hammer on for a few years and really end up with something special. Make no mistake, it's still a long shot. ALL QBs, even 1st rounders, are long shots. But at least with this one you know that everything else is there, and the training and development you spend on him could pay off huge down the road.

But when you think about it, why are teams so cheap when it comes to this? Denver, Philly, Atlanta weren't willing to pony up the extra couple hundred grand for a flyer on a prototype QB? In a league where teams almost yearly leave millions of dollars of dead money on their books? Kudos to Rick for doing what it took.

Wow.  Yes I know it's only preseason but he still had some pretty impressive throws in this video.

He's the perfect developmental, 3rd string type QB IMO.  There is a lot of potential there if he can be developed.

Here's an interesting link.  How many 3rd/4th string UDFA rookie QBs have a 54 page thread devoted to them by their team's fans?

https://forums.denverbroncos.com/showthr...58-Sloter/

There are a lot of unhappy Broncos fans out there right now from the looks of it.

Comparing Sloter to the other 2017 quarterback prospects, I would describe him as a taller (by nearly three inches), more athletic version of Patrick Mahomes…and more like a cross between Davis Webb and Mitchell Trubisky. Throwing accuracy and character more like Webb, and the quick release, downfield accuracy and instincts of Trubisky…but far more ‘raw’ than any of the top guys, obviously.
