TDN - Minnesota Vikings 7 Round Mock

Little is also starting to get some end of the First Round steam. No way he lasts until the 4th.
I think this mock contains a LOT of optimism about players sliding: Moehrig, Wilson, Little are all getting mocked at least a round higher than he project them. ONE player on our wish list might slide, not 3 or more. And he doesn't seem to know if he's drafting Tre Brown or Tre Norwood...

I don't see Vera Tucker being a great fit for our offensive line scheme.  I like Rashawn Slater's feet, arm length and athleticism more as a tackle prospect who could kick inside to guard (ala Cleveland) and to me holds more value.  Ditto with Darrisaw.

Moehring likely wont get out of the first round and I'd be surprised to see Marvin Wilson drop that far
Are you possibly thinking of someone else? He's a great fit for our scheme.
I'm kind of scratching my head about Tucker being a poor fit. I can see the case regarding Wyatt Davis, who was probably a more dominant/powerful college lineman but not necessarily as mobile.

Well that's one of the problems in not having the combine this year and being able to see him match up against other lineman.  I watched his tape against Utah and Oregon this year as a left tackle.  There were some plays he was on the ground, got called for a hold, and gave up a pressure on an INT.  I don't know that he is necessarily long enough to play LT at the next level and be a Pro Bowl type player, and to me, unless it's Quentin Nelson...I don't know that I'd take a guard with a top 15 pick.

I can't speak for anyone else, but he's a LG all day and a swing/emergency LT.

I like AVT quite a bit too and would be very pleased with him in the first round...especially after trading down a little.

Its kind of moot because I can almost guarantee that the pick will be defense. No way Zimmer is going to allow anything else after giving up almost 400 yards a game.  The only teams that allowed more points a game on average were Detroit, Jacksonville, and Oakland.  We were beyond horrendous while still pacing 4th in the league in total offense.  The only way I can see this pick not being defense is if an elite offensive skill player that has no business being on the board at 14 somehow fell into our laps, like a Kyle Pitts, Trey Lance or Devonte Smith.  I just have a very, very hard time seeing us use the pick on an offensive lineman when there is depth there through the 3rd and 4th rounds

Totally get where you're coming from, however I dont really think I am over the moon on any DT or DE in the first round. The more and more I watch and read things I just cant find myself saying "Yep, thats the guy we need on our defense" when AVT has been labeled one of the safest picks in the draft. We certainly may go defense first round, but I would be happier if AVT was the pick

Just my opinion but I think the Vikings are going to find a way to keep Riley Reiff on an extension. It's just too important of a year to go backwards at that position or be forced into using a high draft pick to fill his spot with so many other roster needs. If that's the case it leaves the left guard position open for the upcoming season with the other four positions being stable with returning starters. Do you use a top 15 pick to fill that spot? I'm not so sure that's the smart play with our pass rush and defensive line being such a huge need. I do get what your saying though because all the highly regarded d-lineman this year come with some risk for one reason or another, but I still don't think it's going to dissuade the Vikings from rolling the dice on one of these guys whether that's Barmore, Phillips, Rousseau, or maybe even Paye

It's weird how the Vikings have had great success drafting DEs in the 3rd and 4th round, but whenever they take a DT in the mid rounds, they are always mediocre to bad. I doubt that we can afford Leonard Williams, but they need a DT who can generate quick interior pressure to pair with Pierce. I'd be OK taking a DE too if there right DT is not there, but the DL needs to improve to take pressure off of a young secondary. LB could be a decent sized need. There's no way they can afford to keep Wilson and it really comes down to what the coaches think of Troy Dye.
