Hypothetical Question.

Quit dreaming that we will keep Spielman/Zimmer AND develop a "QB of the future". Spielman has never setup his QB roster to have any serious competition for the starting QB job. Ponder went to camp as the undisputed starter in 2012 and 13 - zero competition until they completely gave up on him. Then Bridgewater was the same. Spielman's approach is to have a backup who is an "emergency", like Sean Hill or Sean Mannion, that plays for a very modest contract. He does not want fans chanting the name of the backup QB during a bad game by his chosen starter. Even Case Keenum was seen as just a scrub backup, most people thought he was a step down from Hill, and I think that preconception stayed with Spielman even through the 2017 run. IMO he was planning to court Cousins even while Keenum was winning more games in a season than any QB since Favre.

While I'll always have a soft spot for Case, a blind man could see he was on borrowed time. As for Teddy, Cassel was the starter going into the season and only gave up the job when he broke his foot. Sure, it was inevitable...but Teddy never went in as the unquestioned starter.

I don’t think we are as far off as others. In fact, I think our record would be much better had we had Pierce and especially Hunter. The dline is killing us. Hard to win when you give up 102 points in the first 3 games.
As is, we are not going to win games without young guys popping like Jefferson did last week. These young corners need a spark. A number of them have the talent, but I’m not seeing a rapid enough progression. Too many mistakes.

If we could trade Zimmer and Spielman for Darnold I'd do it.
