Trent Williams Denies Rejecting Trade to Vikings Which Means the Redskins Are up to Something

Who's to trust? The team known for making slimy organizational moves when it comes to players and personnel, or the man who sat out an entire season because said team's medical staff failed to make a proper diagnosis that could have cost him his life?
We'll go with the latter, which is why Trent Williams' latest comments about the Washington Redskins claiming he didn't want to be traded to the Minnesota Vikings make us think the team is up to something fishy in regards to a bidding war.
According to NFL Network, the Vikings were informed Williams did not want to play for them as the two sides were discussing a trade, in which Minnesota upped its offer to two Day 3 draft picks. Williams denied that was ever the case. Previous reports suggested the Vikes were one of Williams' preferred destinations and the two sides discussed a trade for over a month.
It's quite possible this false information was leaked by the Redskins in hopes of them getting a better deal. After all, Williams is an All-Pro talent and it's clear Washington isn't going to move him for nothing. Perhaps new rumors suggesting the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams are the new teams to watch in any potential deal, don't be surprised when more info leaks that the Skins had better offers from these two teams and nixed talks with the Vikings by leaking Williams' alleged preferences.

It was when the Vikings drafted Cleveland that Williams nuked the trade.
According to reports, the trade fell apart earlier in the day.
I think those reports are inaccurate. According to Spielman himself, they were working on Williams right up to the point when they drafted Ezra Cleveland.

So tell Williams that they drafted Cleveland to play guard...

Hmmm. Maybe the framework was in place but Rick didn't pull the trigger while he watched Cleveland getting in range. Then he picked him and pooh-poohed the deal as it was and countered with a lower offer. Washington got ticked and put out a false story so make it look like Minnesota was out to try and drum up interest with someone else.

Seriously, for the right price why wouldn't you want Williams and kick Ezra inside? That price went down, though, since Cleveland can clearly potentially stay at LT. Rick may not be done with this deal, no matter how it may chap Washington's ass.

Apparently the Rams and 49ers are sniffing around.  Washington thinks it can get a better deal than from the Vikings.  Hope it all blows up in Dan Snyder's face.

That's far more likely than the almost nonsensical notion that Williams, after weeks of trade and contract negotiations with the Vikings, suddenly deciding that he didn't want to go to Minnesota. As if he JUST found out about it. I think people just misinterpreted what Schefter said.

I negotiate for a living. Washington knew Rick wanted Williams, they had the leverage and named a price. He countered. And it probably went back and forth without the press catching wind for a few weeks now.

When Rick couldn't move up for Wirfs Washington probably figured it was a done deal. Two Day 2 picks. Likely a 4th and a 5th. Cleveland falls into Rick's lap. Now he has the leverage. I'm sure he picked up the phone and countered with two 5ths. Or a 5th and a 6th. Washington got pissed, declined the offer, and needed to put out a smokescreen that Minnesota was no longer interested, the scapegoat couldn't be Minnesota because they probably are still interested. And now have even more leverage. So Washington makes Williams the scapegoat instead.

Financially speaking I'm ambivalent about adding Trent. But I'd still keep my offer on the table and wait for Washington to fold.

It makes total sense for them to blame Williams. I mean why not? Washington already screwed him over before. Washington is such a mess.
