We don't know the extent to which either side tried to work something out. So you're making a lot of assumptions here. In the end, Spielman obviously decided it was better to trade him than work out any differences. That's exactly what he decided. What, do you think if he weren't traded that Diggs would've sat out the season? Do you know how ridiculous THAT sounds?

I have a hunch that a few of the easily offended types on the team (Cousins? Zimmer?) got their egos stepped on by a fiery receiver and wouldn't let it go.

But hell, who knows? Maybe Irv Smith will draw a few doubles, or we'll draft the next Randy Moss, or we'll draft the biggest baddest ass run blocking left guard the world has ever seen and just run the ball 60 times a game.

Yeah, it'll be fun having two first rounders. I'm excited about that. But don't try to deny that our offense just became much worse today.

Seems pretty obvious the ego that was bruised belongs to someone that diggs his own way.
Or just wants to win. This kind of reinventing Diggs to justify the trade is just so fucking AM radio. He has an ego. He's good but not great. He was a cancer. He dropped balls.

Really, it's OK guys. For the love of God, it's OK to disagree with a move your team makes.

nobody is reinventing Diggs.  It has been going on for a year now and we were left speculating and wondering.  Now we know.
He was a good WR, he will be missed, but he wasn't Randy Moss.  He isn't irreplaceable.  that is just so "fanatical".

He
did have an ego, maybe he did want to win.  But why throw a fit during
games we won?  Maybe he wanted more passes his way and wasn't happy.
And yes, he dropped plenty of balls.  That fact was established above.
He may not have been a cancer, but he was a developing malcontent.

I
disagree at times.  I adamantly disagree with some.  Some piss me off.
But it is also okay to say the Vikings got good value for a diva that
didn't want to be here.

We went 30th in passing attempts averaging 29 a game. I can't even be upset about this until I see this offense try and crack the top 15 without him.

I get that I'm not everyone's cup of tea as a poster. But Maroon and Faithful are gold. And they hate this trade.

If you can't stop blindly protecting the team long enough to consider that 2 of the most level-headed, consistent posters are against it and think rationally about why they are...then Screw You!

Kidding. I'm now officially back on the Treadwell Bandwagon!

The reason Diggs wanted out is the same reason losing him won't hurt as bad as many think. It's a running scheme.
Some act as if it was going to morph into the greatest show on turf once Cousins got adequate protection.
Zimmer wants to run. Though Diggs is a gifted receiver, he isn't as crucial as some think.

The trade capital gained gives the Vikings a chance to fill a lot of holes and perhaps be contenders this year.
They will be a better team.

I don't understand this statement "Diggs dropped alot of balls". Here are the drops for 2019. I know there are other factors ( games played, throw percentage etc) but that is a far cry from a lot of drops.

- Dalvin Cook, M. Evan's, Devante Adams, A. Robinson, O. Beckam, DJ Metcalf: 7 (11th)
- Diggs, Michael Thomas : 6 (24th)

Well, I like it, Wet likes it, and Jimmy likes it. We aren't gold, were platinum...a d they like the trade.

If you can't stop blindly protecting the player long enough to consider that 3 of the most level neaded, consistent posters are for it, and think rationally about why they are...then screw YOU!

Kidding. I'm officially back on the Chad Beebe bandwagon.

Didn't Kubiak have a pair of 1,000 yard Receivers in Denver when he won the Super Bowl? I'll save everyone some trouble: he did.

Too many tropes being bandied about lately. 'Corners need time to learn Zimmer's intricate system'. Bullshit. Mike isn't even using that system any more and Hughes played a ton of snaps as a Rookie before he got hurt.

'You don't need 2 WRs in this system'. Bullshit. Last time I checked Kevin Stefanski is no longer the OC in Minnesota. Gary Kubiak has run Offenses that were run oriented and had good to great Receivers at the same time.

'Zimmer won't let Kubiak open up the Offense' Bullshit. You really think a guy that has had to step down twice from being a Head Coach with health issues, who's won multiple Super Bowls as a Player and Coach, is going to take an OC job just to be dictated to by a Head Coach that doesn't have a third of his resume?

Gary has free reign to do what he wants with this Offense. He did not want Diggs gone and his Offense will suffer for the loss to some degree. Gary may well have known it was coming when he took the job. That doesn't mean he wanted it to happen.

I don't love the trade, but I understand it.  I can't speak for others, but I'm NOT protecting the team.  I'm drawing logical conclusions about why the trade happened...

One of the most logical, rational football posters (Maroon) is drawing illogical, irrational conclusions because of an emotional response to the trade.  I mean, really...  we're blaming Zimmer and Cousins now because they have "fragile egos" and couldn't get past Diggs antics.  LOFL

I'm sorry, but I was one of the people that felt the cryptic tweets were much ado about nothing...  but guess, what?  I'm not afraid to admit I was wrong.

I thought it was crazy talk that 1) Diggs would want out from a team that has made him a star and 2) the Vikings wouldn't trade a young, stud WR in his prime on a team friendly deal.

Think about that for a second...  we had no financial incentive to do it...  we took 9 million in dead money and only gained 5.5 million in cap space.  That is nothing for a player of his caliber and age.  Plus, we had him for 3 more seasons under a team friendly deal.  So it wasn't a financial decision.

It certainly wasn't a decline in production either...  he had his best year last season as a pro.  So not a financial reason, not a production reason, so...

What's left?  Look at the sequence of events.  I didn't want to believe it because I was having an irrational, emotional response at the thought of him wanting out.  But the warnings signs were there and had been going back to the previous off-season.  I just didn't want to admit it.

If Spielman and Zimmer didn't try to work things out with Diggs, then they should be fired.  I'm guessing they tried many times, but it fell on deaf ears.

This isn't the first time Zimmer has had a fiery and/or diva personality on his team.  Heck, he coached Prime aka Meion and Pacman Jones...  You don't think those guys needed to be constantly handled?  Did they have any problems with Zim?  No, they fucking loved him.

The truth is staring you two in the face.  You just don't want to believe that a 26-year old decided he didn't want to be a Viking anymore.

One potential downside I just thought of. If teams can't get in a normal range of OTAs due to the pandemic, vet players have additional intrinsic value over draft picks.
