Diggs traded to Buffalo
He grumped about a new contract even before he got the extension, then started in again nearly 6 months into his new contract.  In his eyes he's bigger than the small lights shone on the midwest---no amount of money was going to assuage his ego.

Forcing it to work going forward spits in the eyes of all the players around him trying to buy into building a winner in the Vikings as an organization

I find it interesting that SilverJoel posted a side-by-side comparison of the two star Wideouts production when playing without the other that not 1 single proponent of the deal has commented on....

This Franchise is screwed if they can't learn to handle big egos and childish behavior. You think the younger generations coming up are less entitled? Less apt to air their dirty laundry on Social Media? Less likely to have a Me-First Mentality?

I am a Recruiter. For the largest online retailer in the world. I'm Gen X and find myself shaking my head on a daily basis at the outlandish expectations these kids have coming out of school. Degreed Engineers looking for C Suite money with terrible written communication skills and not much better social skills.

You know what? I don't have to like them to recruit them. And my Hiring Mangers find ways get them to be productive quickly, despite the drama.

Now imagine that same age group getting millions of dollars to play Sports. With their huge group of groupthink hangers-on. And their penchant to play video games and blab on Social Media instead of going outside and engaging with humans in person.

The Minnesota Vikings have now failed 3 times at WR and once at RB when it comes to dealing with highly productive divas. One of the Receivers is in the HOF. The RB will be one day, too.

And who's to say Adam isn't next out the door? He factually performed less well than Diggs on his own. His methodology may differ but why assume he would be happy with his targets and not follow Diggs' path?

Oh, he'd never do that, you'll say. Why? Cuz he's white? He's already called his QB out publicly. And by doing so called out Zimmer's run-first preference in the process.

I don't know if it's an Upper Midwest thing, a Wilf thing, a Rick thing or a Zimmer thing. At some point the franchise needs to stop acting like a grumpy old man yelling at the kids on his lawn and learn how to manage around the behavior. Ignore him and fine him. Sooner than later it will work. Kids need cash and so do their hanger-ons.

Most of you want to win a Super Bowl before you die. Me, too. I don't see that happening if they can't learn to deal with precocious talents. This was hardly Owens or Brown level acting out. But if Diggs' behavior is the bar you're going to see more kids wanting out only to be replaced by much less talented players who happen to keep their mouths shut.
the behavior that you know of.... we arent there we dont know what was said or done behind the scenes.  it was in the teams best interest to not let that shit out and it was in diggs best interest to keep a poker face to how badly he wanted to leave.  we may never know,  but I doubt the team parted ways with one of the best contractual returns that they have ever had without much consideration of all the facts,  not just what the public was made aware of.
Well, we didn't know the behind the scenes stuff because Diggs didn't put it out there.  Unlike Thielen, who got his thoughts out to the media and made Cousins apologize on his broadcast.

That's not to knock Thielen at all, but there seems to be this huge double standard.  Thielen took his grips to the public, Diggs kept them mostly in-house.  Diggs is the diva?  Isn't keeping things in-house the best course?

Thielen yells at Cousins on the sideline, Diggs calms those two down.  Diggs is the diva?  Thielen throws his helmet quite a bit, yells at teammates, refs and other team's coaches.  Diggs puts out a 3 word tweet.  Diggs is the diva?

My guess, Diggs didn't like playing with Cousins.  I'm thinking a missed Diggs wide open play conversation went something like this:

Diggs: I was open on that play.
Cousins: with the look the defense was giving, the playbook says to throw it to Hamm.
Diggs: but I was wide open from the start of the play.
Cousins: not according to the playbook.
Diggs: .....
yep,  thats probably exactly how it went down and Diggs is the victim here.... except he is not here,  he is gone and by his own choosing.  so whatcha gonna do?  we can piss and moan,  we could tweet out cryptic shit about spielman, cousins, Zim, or anybody else,  hell we can infer racism... thats always good for a shit storm,  fuck we could throw our computer monitors and draw a penalty.... lots of things, but really what are fans going to do,  we couldnt shut Diggs up,  we cant make Rick go find a better QB,  its over and Diggs is gone.   The kid was pretty damn good when he was good,  but he was hardly the stand alone #1 that some want to make him out to be,  he was good because of AT and was better with Kirks accuracy but he wanted more.  now he has John Brown and a new town,  maybe they will keep him happy.

Thielen was probably tired of the drama here too. I think Diggs was jealous of the success of the undrafted Thielen.

That tweet didn't spur the trade. It was a result of it. You couldn't possibly believe that Diggs didn't already know it was happening before he tweeted that.
Why would you assume Diggs knew about the trade at 1:46 p.m. when he sent out that tweet?  The trade wasn't announced until like 9:30 last night...  it's all speculation and none of us are going to know how it went down exactly.  I don't see the point of arguing about this.

What is plain to see is that Diggs wanted out of here.  If he didn't, he would still be a Viking.  That is something we can all be very sure of...

Because agents talk to their players.

werent there reports that the Vikings were still taking offers and talking to multiple teams at that point?  not sure where the agent comes in to the equation unless it is to confirm that a client will report to the new team prior to any trade going down?

Diggs went from Teddy to Bradford to Case

Teddy and he were young dawgs together
Bradford had the arm and balls to throw Diggs open
Case took chances and knew to get the ball into Stef’s hands open or not

Kirk, is analytical, so much that he doesn’t throw very often WR’s open.  If he does, it seems to be Adam more than Stefon

I am certain this is a huge reason why Stef wanted to leave last April and that didn’t change until yesterday

I for one am not sold on Kirk because I think he is too analytical and gun shy, so Stef might be right but his future numbers in Buffalo won’t look good with Allen at QB which will make him seem like the loser in this deal.

Bummer all around but glad we got what we got for a guy who didn’t want to be here

I agree. There's a lot we don't know. I'm guessing after the 49er game (or a half dozen others) where countless times he was seen breaking free, completely open, only to watch Cousins either check down under pressure, or get sacked under pressure. Diggs might have said a few things about that. I don't know whether he blamed the protection or the Cousins himself, but I can pretty much guarantee you he was hot about it.

But you know what? So was I. And I wouldn't want a choir boy receiver on my team who isn't competitive and doesn't get a little pissed off every now and then. You watch those replays and he's giving 110% on every one of those routes. The footwork is jaw-dropping. Only to stand there and watch the play breakdown. That has to be frustrating. Everyone talks about Thielen as if he's some kind of saint, but there have been many times when he was pissed off too.

If I'm in charge of the team, I talk to Diggs about that. Tell him you're going to fix the offensive line. Fine him, bench him, whatever, but don't trade the best player on the team and hope to somehow "get over the hump."
Kirk definitely did miss him a couple of times in the SF game, but everyone in that game was awful. Oline, Cousins, Scherels, etc. Let's not pretend like Stefon is a saint on the field though. Sure, he was the best deep receiver in the nfl and I still think he is the best route runner, but he had a lot of fumbles, never really seemed to do that well on end around plays, and was the #36 ranked receiver in drop rate. Good player, not elite, and we got a damn good return for him (better return than Hopkins, Amari Cooper, and Antonio Brown).

Yeah, it is easy to look at film and see that kirk missed him at times.  That is easy looking from the all 22, but a bit different from behind the O-line, especially when you have taken a few lumps.  Kirk definitely went into a shell at times and wasn't willing to keep taking the beating.  He is a bit like Eli Manning in that way, but most QBs get gunshy when getting hit.

But as you point out, Diggs had his share of drops as well.  He certainly wasn't sure handed, especially this year.  Perhaps that comes from trying to make his play match his check.  Or worse yet, his mouth.  But he had no business getting that bent about being "missed" on a play or two when often his drop put them in a dire situation.

Let's review what has happened over the past 6-8 months...

Diggs brother tweets a photoshopped picture of Diggs in a Redskins uniform...

Diggs throws a fit about the offense after 4 games this season...

He skips a couple days of practice mid-week...

The team fines him...

The media asks him if there is any truth to the rumors he wants to be traded...

He responds that there is truth in all rumors...

He deletes all the pictures of him in Vikings gear from his Instagram page after the season...

He tweets a bunch of cryptic messages...

He posts a video of him working out in Cardinals gear...

One of these things by themselves isn't a big deal... You add them all together and it starts to paint a pretty clear picture of what Diggs wanted.

The team likely did reach out to Diggs to try to repair the disconnect between the two.  However, it takes two to tango...  if Diggs wanted to repair the relationship, he would still be a Viking.

Your post above makes it sound like you think Spielman decided it was better to trade him than work out any differences...  How ridiculous does that sound?

I'm glad people are pointing out the drops and fumbles. He was very Harvin-esque in how many times balls seemed to bounce off of him and in the unlikeliest manner end up as Picks.

If Thielen blows a hammy again the season is effectively over, folks. There were 2 Great Receivers on Kubiak's Super Bowl winning team, not one.

With Lamb/Jeudy/Ruggs almost guaranteed to be gone by the 1st pick I'm starting to like Jefferson out of LSU. He beat a lot of good Corners this year. And he can play out of the Slot & Outside, which gives Gary some flexibility.

Gotta add a veteran, though. Who here honestly wants to roll w/ a Rookie or Bisi as the #2 option? That would arguably be the worst WR Corps in the League.
