Great, they dominated a poor team, Zimmer's supporters feel totally justified. I guess that shows how low the bar has been set.
Now impress me and dominate the Eagles. In fact, truly impress me with a dominant SEASON. That has been the expectation since they were 11-5 and ascending in 2015. But since then it has been one strong season that seemed more due to Pat Shurmur and lucky breaks, surrounded by mediocrity.
Zimmer fans act like he is in his second year after inheriting Mike Tice's depleted roster. He has had control for 5 seasons and for the past 4, every NFL pundit says his roster is of Super Bowl contending talent level. Pretty sad that beating a team that was 5-11 last year is seen as a vindication.
Just about as sad as calling for his head after a tough loss in chicago.
I just bumped this thread so the unhappy lot would have a reason to post this week.
Do you really think it's the one loss? Maybe it was the breaking point was reached. The body of work is compelling when it comes down to wins and losses...same thing for Cousins, it wasn't just that horrid throw vs gb...
No it isn't one loss, or one win or one throw. (Cousins is a separate conversation, I am not as optimistic on him)
But what is Zimmers record? Where do his defenses rank? He has won the north twice, we are competitive every year. Yes, we haven't gotten over the NFCCG hump yet, but who has since Grant? Green got 9 years and I think Zimmer is much better than Green. Win percentage is pretty much the same, playoff win percentage is the same. I like the character of the team much more with Zimmer. I think he has coached through much more adversity.
The team loses damned near every Nationally Televised game against a quality opponent on the Road. And is far from a lock against quality opponents at home. He's gotten every damned thing he's asked for on Defense and has turned yet another QB into a Game Manager in an era where even the Bears are finding out the hard way that you need more than that.
Forgive some of us for finally deciding enough is enough. Can't stop long drives to start games against teams like ever. Can't seem to enable an OC to call a modern pass to run ratio against good teams like ever. Can't mange challenged or the game clock like ever.
I've defended this FO and Coaching Staff for ever. But fool me a dozen times, on the road, on nationally televised games and even my purple shades start to look red. I think jumping on the Cleveland coaching carousel is a bad idea. Patience and continuity are much more important than fan drama.
?? This is Zimmer's 6th season as Viking's coach, not his third. The Browns have had 5 coaches since 2013. So lets not pretend its even close to the same thing if the Viking's fire Zimmer after this season. At some point, 'patience and continuity' by fans is just enablement and rationalizing.
I understand it is Zimmer's 6th year. I think i mentioned that above. But as I said, jumping on the revolving coach carousel is a bad idea. Our offense has struggled because of lack of continuity, so lets get better by putting the whole team in spin mode. That is what I find odd.
Now everyone has an opinion, and this is just mine. So spare me the condescension. I find the criticisms of zimmer often based in hyperbole and exaggeration.
But so is your response. 'The whole team in spin mode'.....'Revolving coach carousel' (Zimmer's been here 6 years, not sure what kind of 'carousel' that is)....that isn't hyperbolic and exaggerated?
The all made a big bet on Kirk Cousins and the returns as of now look like this: no playoffs. Like I've said before: the Wilfs very well may keep both another year regardless. But that doesn't mean its what they should do. Nobody makes it out alive over the Kirk Cousins Experiment, IMO. Whether that's this offseason or next. Now some of the talk in this thread about firing Zimmer sometime during the season is silly and to your point about hyperbole and exaggeration.
That would be speculation, not exaggeration. I think most teams that fire coaches end up in a cycle of turmoil, often firing again within 5 years.

What's the distinction? LOL, I mean, seriously. You're splitting hairs to be stubborn.
Bottom line: bump the thread when the win actually means something. The win against the Giants doesn't make your case.

I think I mentioned earlier that I bumped this thread just to tweak those being dramatic about firing zimmer. So yes, it is a bit hyperbole. My distinction was that I am speculating what would possibly happen if we were to fire Zimmer. Speculation is much different than zimmer can't manage a game ever, zimmer ruined another QB.
That is hyperbole and exaggeration.

We need to run a bunch of crossing routes against the Eagles, that way Sendejo can take out 2 or 3 more defenders for us...! B)
i wonder how many of the anti dejo folks even noticed when Harry damn near put Rhodes in concussion protocol? dejo plays hard and fast, kind of what you ask a safety to do, he was a little over the top at times, but a guy like him from a no where college program has to play that way to stay in the league.
I’m not in the so called anti dejo camp, but Harry ran into X in coverage, not trying to drop an unguided missile hit into an opponent.

I think I would have to watch it again....seemed like Harry was trying to make a play and came flying in...not unlike a lot of dejos greatest hits.

Well, I did text to a buddy that Smith nearly Sendejoed Rhodes...so, I noticed...
When Harry lights up as many teammates as Dejo, we can call it Ditrty Harrying a guy...not to be confused with the Dirty Sanchez...
Watching teams hire and fire coaches and g.m.'s who built rosters less talented and deep than this one, I always wonder who will be the g.m./coach that Wilf hires who'll do better? Especially since Wilf never could hire worth a crap and only made Spielman a real g.m. after years of his t.o.a. producing jackshit. If firing guys produced championships then every team out there would have one.
I'm not really going to argue hard that they should keep their jobs if we go another year without so much as a playoff win but ... what comes next? Has Zygmunt Inherit-a-Fortune Wilf somehow suddenly learned to build success and hire the right people after Foley, Chili and Les were how he started his tenure? Or are we just going to get setup for the next 15 years of Wilf mediocrity as he chases some "hot" name or hires whoever walks in the door first without so much as looking at candidate #2 like the last 3 times? No one knows and that's the truth.

I don't understand this thought process. So you are now scared to hire someone new because they might be worse? But you're ok with the current regime because they've built a talented roster in your opinion? They didn't make the playoffs last year....and its very much up in the air if they will this season. The team spent $84 million guaranteed on a guy that is giving nothing on the investment thus far. The team can't beat good teams but feasts on bad teams. Is the Viking's fanbase so gun-shy and scarred that they won't demand better?
If they don't reach the playoffs, its time to let someone else try. Some of you act like Zimmer hasn't had a chance....6 years isn't enough? Really?
Nobody knows about the unknown, that I agree with, but I think we might know the known part and that's that this team can't beat anyone worth a damn on the playing field. They're already 0-2 in the division. The only playoff game Zimmer has won is the Minneapolis Miracle. That's sobering. And the following week got ANNIHILATED.

I'm not "scared" to hire anyone, it's Wilf who's doing the hiring. If I were actually scared about football which is a silly thing in and of itself, then I guess I'd be scared of what Wilf will come up with for a new gm/coach. What are the odds that he can actually improve upon what he's got right now? I say they are low based on his history.
You say we must demand better... sure, demand better although I think Zimmer is a good coach and there are few better. Not sure on Spielman. His drafting improvement coincides with Zimmer's arrival. He gets credit for the hire--certainly a better hire than Chili or Les, Zygmunt's hand-picked guys.
Assuming it goes the way you would like it to, I'm pretty sure that after the blessed firings that make every message board table thumper's heart go flutter that we'll be right back here in 2-3 years "demanding better". You're certain that change is good and I'm not, because the guy making the change has no history of making smart decisions, outside of ones that line his pocket.
