Flip also said that Cousins arm is better than he originally thought. Said the ball is flying off his hand. 9 games indoors is great for Kirk....and the Vikings. He was fine outdoors in Washington, his arm is decent. All early signs are glowing about Cousins.
I know Flip is talking about velocity, which is far more important. But having a passer who can also throw deep could really open up this offense.
This ball travels about 65 yards in the air. It's a pass that Keenum couldn't dream of throwing.
Lets hope he has the time to let a reciever get that far down the field with this line blocking for him. Its pretty much what it comes down to because he hasnt shown the pocket movement, scrambling, ability to extend plays with his legs and throw accurately on the run as Keenum had to.
13-3, 22-7, 1-1, 3900, 67.6%. Lets hope he smashes them all.
LOVE QBs that throw WR open. This is what Case struggled with. Same for Teddy. I would say over the last 15 years we have only seen 4 seasons of thatt type of QB play. Pepper in 03 and 04, Farve 09, Bradford 16
With Diggs and AT, their numbers should increase this year based on run catch run. Not run wait tackle.
Cousins isnt that Premier Tier 1 group (Brady, Brees, Rodgers) but he is right beneath them.

I agree that he's not quiet as elusive as Keenum, but his arm talent is far better. I think some still don't want to accept it, but there's a reason we did not pursue Case Keenum.
And let's not start this false narrative that Cousins is the least bit immobile. He may not be as elusive as Keenum, but he moves very well.

Lets not put words in others mouths to fit our own agenda or whatever reason. No one has accused Cousins of being immobile. But most reasonable people would agree that he has not been as mobile as Keenum but instead Cousins has a better arm.
For me the question comes down to the O line. As someone pointed out, it took Birk 3 years to break into the starting lineup. I wonder what the average time is for an O lineman to become a starter. Its a point I hadnt truly considered or accounted for. Are the Vikings reserves ready to step up? Have they matured to the point of providing the blocking needed for Cousins to play his best? The article points out how much his game suffered when starters go down due to injuries. I hope given the situation that Cousins rises to the occasion.
He is being paid as an elite QB. It would be excellent to see him play like one.

the only reason Birk took so long is he was playing behind Jeff Christy who was a pretty damn good player in his own right, and at the time it was argued IIRC that Birk was likely the better player sooner, but as we have seen with coaches they are often hesitant to pull a decent starter even if there might be an equal or better younger player. its kind of was that way at the end of Birks time here as he was struggling with his health and Sully was showing as good or better when called upon.

Wonder if he'll be able to throw Treadwell open.

I think Rick Spielman is the only one who can throw Treadwell open.
