Vikings put Kevin McDermott on IR, add Cornelius Edison to rosterWith center Pat Elflein out for Sunday’s game because of a shoulder injury, the Vikings added practice squad center Cornelius Edison to their active roster on Saturday to give themselves another option behind Joe Berger. To make room for Edison, they made a roster move that means their new long snapper will be in the position headed into the playoffs.
The Vikings put Kevin McDermott on injured reserve, officially ending the long snapper’s season after he dislocated his shoulder last Saturday night in Green Bay. McDermott was hopeful he’d be able to return for a playoff game, but the Vikings signed free agent Jeff Overbaugh for at least Sunday’s game against the Bears. Now, it appears the job will be Overbaugh’s indefinitely.
With Elflein out on Sunday and Nick Easton done for the season, the Vikings’ line, from left to right, figures to be Riley Reiff, Jeremiah Sirles, Berger, Mike Remmers and Rashod Hill. Edison gives them a backup in case anything would happen to Berger, who is already moving from right guard back to his old position.
Edison is a product of Portland State, where AC Patterson — the son of Vikings defensive line coach Andre Patterson — is the university’s running backs coach.
