Lol...

Ok, I'm sure Shannie had a little to do with it, but c'mon. So he just applied what the 49'ers taught him vs continuing to grow and learn??

Before signing with the Niners, Jones also noted the ascent of Sam Darnold, another former high draft pick who struggled elsewhere, went to San Francisco and has since enjoyed success with the Minnesota Vikings and signed a sizable free agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

It's 5 long years now since he was enjoying that stogie after the Tide won the National Championship in 2020:

Record-breaking performance:
Jones led the Crimson Tide to a 13-0 record and a national championship, earning him numerous accolades.

Statistical dominance:
He set NCAA season records for passing efficiency rating (203.1) and completion percentage (77.4%).

National recognition:
He won the Davey O'Brien Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and the Manning Award.

Heisman Trophy contention:
He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting, behind teammate DeVonta Smith.

NFL draft decision:
After the season, Jones announced he would forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2021 NFL draft.

I think the time in Jax was the final nail in the coffin. Journeyman or QB2 is what I see as his ceiling at this point.

There was a person or two on this board that loved Mac Jones, but I never could see it with him. Stiff. Very little arm, couldn't drive it down the field. Fake leader. Backup is his ceiling in the NFL. Not sure he was the most mature kid, had a decent rookie season and then reality set in.

It's possible the #6 least productive QB from last years bumper rook crop will end-up more productive than Mac Jones...

Yes, I'd bet good money that QB6 last year ends up quite a bit better than Mac Jones. 2024 was a great QB class. I think if Mac Jones were in that class, he would've been a 2nd rounder at best.

Maybe the 49ers can fix him the way the Vikings fixed Darnold. But the big difference is that Darnold had, and still has, ridiculous arm talent. Mac Jones never did.

I'd take many QBs before I'd even consider Mac Jones. Jones looks to be a bit bulked up and is preparing to pull a Darnold 2.0, but he's doesn't have the tool kit Uncle Sammy has, big difference. I definitely would take Jaxson Dart over him, although I'm not a big Dart believer.
