I think its a combo: Viking's fans and also what's being said about him for the fair weather NFL fans that want to connect to the next big thing. It can't be just Minnesota fans. He's still got some fading equity as a CFB national championship QB. As several have mentioned, he's got a chance to be a face of the NFL type.

I tend to think that since JJ's a very young, good-looking, well-spoken guy he's probably signing endorsement deals we don't even know about yet. I have a feeling the deals were signed early on and the ads/promos won't see the light of day until the upcoming season. Another part of this might be that JJ's deal, since it's new, like all new contracts, is just higher than previous deals due to simple inflation.
